Telecom have details on their website about their new data roaming pricing, which is due to launch 28th January 2008. One could safely say that it will involve loan data devices, unless any world mode data cards are in the works that we don't know about...

What? $30/MB? The prices are similar to Vodafone. How anti-competitive is that?

Granted, at least in the US, the UK and Australia it's cheaper, but everywhere else...

Mobile Broadband data roaming is charged at a flat fee per megabyte - $8.00 per megabyte (Nil NZ GST payable).


Am I missing something?

I agree, so the best option would be to get the loan device, grap a local SIM Card and surf Smile, should be a little cheaper for the geeks out there that know how.

Providing Telecom does not SIM lock the devices, now that they would have to compete with Vodafone in the data segment...

Thats correct, Australia is $8 per meg while roaming with Telecom, the same as it is currently on the Telstra CDMA network.

Only one way to find out Wink. I do beleive the only locked loan device currenly is the native Samsung W531. The Nokia Roaming phones, *should* be unlocked.

As I wrote, US, UK and Australia are competitive in price with Vodafone , everything else is the same. In any case it's really expensive to roam.

Yes - the avergae hotel at $A20 - $A30 looks not bad..... The alternative, as suggested by a member on the other thread is to become a "fake Australian" and get  Telstra mobile data plan - which is apparently quite reasonable.
