It does't crash for me and I've noticed you have problems with other pages as well.

I have added an IE7 compatibility view tag to Geekzone, but I recommend you disable any old toolbars you might have on your Internet Explorer - better still, remove ones you don't use or need.

I also cannot use the emoticons, the insert emoticon box appears, I can click on them, but none of them ever appear.

Also, the frown emoticon has a black box over it, instead of the emoticon, but it does appear correctly once selected. (Tested in FF)

EDIT: After disabling ALL of the addons available under Tools manage addons, I still cannot insert emoticons. All it seems to do is highlight the 'allign to centre' button.

The text editor here on GZ is TinyMCE, maybe freitasm can update to the latest version (if this isn't it already) on the testing server, and we can see if you still have the same issue.

I've done a Google search for TinyMCE and IE8 problems but very little comes up.  Strange.

Yes, might get an update. It's a bit of pain because new versions need changes in the calls to the script...

I'm not an expert on Internet Browsers... i usually use Firefox..

I'm running Windows 7 on an HP DV5-1004AX laptpop with IE8beta.

All the webpages i usually use run fine including Geekzone and also the above mentioned blog. Is the beta much different from the final recent release? i've been using windows update on 7 regularly and i assume it's been updating IE8beta at the same time.

My initial assessment is that it runs quite well.

are you running the final version of ie8? click on help, then about internet explorer and look next to "updated versions" and it should say zero. If it doesn't your using ie8 beta, so go here and download ie8 final:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/worldwide-sites.aspx

if you go to geekzone.co.nz and click on the compatibility view button when you first arrive, it should stay on when you open that blog.

frietasm, i went to check to see how many w3c errors your website has, and it has 999 errors and 79 warnings. go here:

http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=www.geekzone.co.nz&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0

here is some of the 999 errors it found:

Line 8, Column 52: end tag for "meta" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified.<meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="no-cache">

You may have neglected to close an element, or perhaps you meant to "self-close" an element, that is, ending it with "/>" instead of ">".

Line 12, Column 54: required attribute "content" not specified.

<meta name="robots" CONTENT="index,follow,noarchive">

The attribute given above is required for an element that you've used, but you have omitted it. For instance, in most HTML and XHTML document types the "type" attribute is required on the "script" element and the "alt" attribute is required for the "img" element.

Typical values for type are type="text/css" for <style> and type="text/javascript" for <script>.

Geekzone is now running the latest TinyMCE version available. It seems to have fixed the problem with IE8 and emoticons.

FrownCry

The frown emoticon still does not appear correctly in the selection pop up box.

EDIT: Nor does it appear once I hit post, but it appears fine when I am editing?in the reply box.

EDIT2: when I edited this post it replaced then with the above icons.

This is now fixed. It was not related to IE8, but with the compressionm mechanism on the server.
