I noticed today that when I posted a message that I had the Swedish flag next to my name (instead of the New Zealand flag).

And then tonight it's the german flag?

So I'm guessing that the flag is based on your IP address at the time of posting (rather than your profile)??

Just curious....

PS: The Swedish posting was when I was in the office (and I guess our WAN is routed through our Swedish office), and tonight I'm sitting in a hotel in Frankfurt.

That's correct... We track all IP addresses and reflect the location on the flags. Sometimes you see my posts with a New Zealand flag and on the same day with an US flag - if this happens and I am not really in the US it will be when I am using a CDMA connection from Telecom NZ, which gets an IP in a block "belonging" to the USA (don't know why).

Are you there for the CeBIT? Nice... I attended the CES this year and was planning to go to the CeBIT, but soon-to-arrive family additions mean I can't go away for the next couple of months...

I wish I was here for that 8-).

But unfortunately just looking at various GPRS+Bluetooth+GSM issues (eg the CF card not working). Frankfurt seems to be a very international location where my high school german isn't as necessary as it is when visiting the likes of Munich - which makes the trip a bit more relaxing.

I haven't been travelling for the last couple of years (due to a new family addition), but can now get a week - 10 day "pass" as long as I have an internet link in the hotel so I can use MSN to video call back home 8-).

Since I'm replying at the office, I'd guess this time I'll get a Swedish flag...
