From other Topic:

Hi, i recently signed up for telstra
I got myself a Belkin f5d7230-4
just having some trouble getting it to actually work

the lan side of things seems to be fine as i can ping the router from my pc

The wan says its Connected, but nothing happens

Can someone please confirm
Ip addresss - Static ip given by TCL
Netmask - 255.0.0.0
Default gateway - Static Ip given by TCL

DNS - As given by TCL

Cheers

Make sure you change your PC to use automatic configuration from the router, if you had the static IP on it before.

Also, please create a new discussion for a new topic.

Daveyboi, my subnet mask is as follows

255.255.255.0
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can you ping the TCL gateway??
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ip is set to auto configuration on PC
its picking up a correct IP and Gateway as i can ping the router

Can ping the other side of the router (my fixed Ip assigned by TCL)

will try that other Subnet mask now and see how i go

The really weird thing is, i can plug the computer directly into modem with either subnet mask and i can surf no problems

Tested with 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask with same results

I can even ping an ip address that is two away from my static

its almost like telstra are stopping me or something, but why would it stop the router and not the computer by itssself

For TCL the gateway is usually your ip address but with .1 at the end rather than .nnn which is your IP address

So if your ip address is 203.xxx.yyy.xxx say then the gateway is 203.xxx.yyy.1

If its a four port router, have you made sure to test all four ports?

lchiu7 - Legend!

finally got it going

When TCL set up the PC i wasnt here, only my flatmate
they set it up with the ip the same as the gateway
I thought it was a bit messed up but just assumed they knew what they were doing, so i copied that config to the router

No wonder the router couldnt get onto the net, it was pointing to itsself as the gateway!

unfortunatly TCL dont let you ping the gateway, but i did change my default gateway to the .1 address and now its all go!

Thank you so much for your help guys! much appreciated
