Hi, thought I'd bring my thread across from LAN configuration to here after I saw some very similar posts.

Like alot of people I am having trouble adding a wireless router for a friend, in this case to a TelstraClear cable connection in Chch. The router is a Belkin F5D7230AU4 and initially wouldnt work with the Telstra supplied IP settings etc. In the end I found I had to 'clone' the MAC address from the network adaptor in to the router and for 6 hours they had internet access across the wired and wireless network.

Then the internet died even though there were no config changes anywhere. Running direct from the comp to the cable modem showed that there was no problems with the internet as it was running 100%.

My next plan is to do a complete reset of the router and set it up anew and see what happens again. Maybe try and download a firmware update for it and see if that helps too. Has anyone got any other suggestions?

Cheers

Steve

This sounds like something I should also try .. though I have setup a few WAPs to TC without having to do this in the past.

looking at the TCL modems info screen on 168.192.100.1 (or what ever it was) showed me that the modem had 'learned' the network adaptors MAC. Maybe that was something that the installer did?

Maybe I should try just running their new laptop in to the modem and see if it has a MAC connection issue? But I am hesitant to touch it again now its working lol

Looking at the back pages of the Belkin manual online it did show how to connect to select overseas ISPs and some of the options did say to clone the MAC as part of it.
