Extra charges on creditcards, Limiting your phone connection abilities to their PABX!

It sounds just like every other money grubbing c__t corporate after that student Debt dollar and to pick on helpless immigrants over here to study by confusing them using terms they well know the students won't understand and ripping them off. These c__t companies bosses need to be shot, dead..

I wonder what the surcharge is, normally it's only IRD and small-margin shops which are noramally pretty that have these extra charges (PC shops is one Example) and usually 2-3% for Vsa/Mastercard, 4-5% for AMEX and 6-7% for Diners "club".

Body corporates are long known to rip people off and "mark up" services like power and phones.

IRD is really digusting. They bar 0800 calls coming from cellphones, but when you call the direct dial number you're usually on hold for 30+ minutes... and at $0.49 a minute on motormonth it really forces you to look at a landline or a payphone.

The extra credit card charges (not cash discount, credit card charges) are just the cherry on top.

Im starting a website (http://www.sxnz.net/) solely to make other people whom I live with aware of all the BS that EdPAC (the company) are using to rip off poor students like me.

My letter to Salient (VUW Student Mag) got a full page article so I am stoked! Should be a good medium to promote the new site too once I get around to nutting out a few more lines of PHP to make it all come togeather.

$145 PER PERSONSurprised

AKA $290 a week!!! I rent a 4 bedroom two story HOUSE in Mt Wellington on bus/train/m'way routes for that.

Paying that for a poky stupid little box on a smelly street.... Yeah.... and as usual quoting prices "per person" SCAM! Woop Woop.. WARNING *SCAM*

I might be using some the web traffic generated from my blog to promote a website where people can send in examples about general ripoff deals and companies known to prey on the weak or unwary (elderly, ESOL, Students, Children, low income earners). kinda a consumer watchdog that catches those out that victimise specific groups. A good example is all those LoanSharks whom offer "easy" finance to beneficiaries........ at 35% interest plus $250 fee to get the loan and bill you for paying it off early. Gene*cough*va fin*cough*nance.

Who thinks a shortcode where people can just TXT in scams and stuff? Hmm I have some ideas now and I better sleep.

I pay $195 a week for my 21sqm studio apartment which is pretty expensive as far as university accomodation goes. EdPAC are the only ones that charge students for power too (And at 20c a KwH at that), all of the other vic hostels have power included and the 2nd most expensive hostel is $185 inc power, I spend about $15 a week on power so really I am paying $210 a week in comparison to the other uni hostels here. My girlfriend pays $185 a week and that includes unlimited (within reason) use of power and also included a free phone extn on their buildings PABX (No DDI), my building charges $40/m for that!

I'm taking the laptop up to uni today to hopefully finish or pretty much finish the SXNZ site and expose EdPAC for the money hungry, don't give a flying finger about students, rip off artists they are.

Grrrrrr

that was you adamj with the letter to salient?
nice! :P

btw... geekzone guys, Opera 9 really doesn't like your compose page.
indetifying as opera it won't let you even press enter to get a new line (though you can type) smilies are messed up too.

however, switch it to mask as IE and hey presto it works perfectly.

for a technology based website I think you should try fix this if possible.

thanks

I also use Opera 9 beta, usually have the RTF posting disabled (you can turn it off in your profile settings).

Interesting to hear that it works fine when set to identify as IE... might try that.

I posted this reply with Opera. As noted by Cokemaster, I've added a feature in the profile page to disable the RTF editor because it is not compatible with Opera, or for users who rather hardcode HTML in their replies.

No, I am not seeing horizontal posts.

I'm getting them normally here.

Though I have had Opera 8.5 (Mac) do strange things with sites. Some of those strange things included the horizontal post.
Upgrading to 9 beta fixed it.

Anyway, its blown the thread offtopic. Discussion should probably directed to another thread.

Lets keep it quiet. Don't want EdPAC to know who was behind it becuase they might try and stop what's coming next

Excellent. Keep us informed on the developments.

The apartment building I was staying at last year has suffered a similar fate I believe. Used to be relatively reasonable prices, with prepaid power and a PABX extenstion. They got taken over by a Auckland company, jacked up the rent and now charge for every incoming and outgoing call (from what I hear)

Then there was the whole issue where they'd advertise that they were taking credit cards (stickers on doors, info on website etc) but wouldn't take them. Although this one is a bit different because its unrelated to Massey University and isn't on campus.

Access to buildings by utility companies is something that should not be able to be dictated to by building management.

I know of apartment dwellers that were told no way when they wanted to get a vector fiber connection into the building. Vector were happy to, but the building managers wouldnt allow it.
