Well like many other people who have vocalized their opinions about the slow speed on Go Large - myself included - how much data have you got through.

We just finished our first full month on the plan - and although I'd happily continue to bash Telecom for the slow speed of torrents which now max out at around 30kB/s instead of 200kB/s I think we should take a step back.

Previously we were on the 10 GB a month plan for $50 odd dollars, due to the delay in throtteling down speed on the old plans we could stretch that to 15GB reasonably easily buy getting through 5 odd GB in the last day or two before the new billing month.

So after the first full month...

09 Nov 2006 - 08 Dec

Up = 16897.94 MB
Down = 82362.25 MB
Total = 99260.19 MB

So considering I just got effectively 6x increase in my data cap to 100GB I think people have moaned enough. If you must really get the latest Prison Break the day it comes out rather then waiting for an overnight download then choose another plan, otherwise how about being happy about getting over 6x your value for money.

So what have other people got to on go large, or for that matter any other "Unlimited plans"?

How the hell can you download that much when the download speeds on this plan are complete [profanity removed]? I'm lucky ( well, not lucky ) enough to get around 10k on torrents. The 700mb cap from 4pm till 12am is a joke, as the download speed is so bad that you couldn't do that much anyway even if you wanted to!

I think that is the point of this thread.
I am still on 5GB and struggle to get anywhere near that. My friend went from 5GB to Go Large and is now doing 40+GB. If he is typical of what others are doing then surely something has to give. Fortunately my speed is still leashed so unaffected by the current speed wobbles.

I had to remind my mate it is summer outside. ;)

I'm currently sitting on 6,605.76 MB.
I don't really download that much however use around 10GB each month so it works out cheaper for me than the older 10gb plan. Speeds can vary, though its ok since no one here is a speed demon.

Out of curiosity, what are you downloading to use 100gb?

Also ya must keep in mind that while you have done very well, not everyone is experiencing the same result, hence they still have reason to moan...myself, I'm happy with my service.

Although I'm no longer with Go Large (I left for exactly these gripes) and I'm now with Woosh Orbit Flatrate, its virtually the same unlimited full speed offering as Go Large, and over the last 10 days I have downloaded 20gb, so will do around 60gb at that rate...

I suppose you could also look at this by thinking back to the Jetstart days, I used to be able to do 50GB on a 256/128 plan in a month (up and down). Mind you I have better things to do that download every release I can these days so I'm not too fussed.

It interests me somewhat the level to which you guys are involved in downloading/sharing. Back a few years ago I used to FXP over 50gig a day of 'Information for Educational Purposes'.

Left that scene well behind now although still have lots of leech access which serves me well. Yet I still only just manage to fill my quota of 10gig per month which keeps me happy, so what on earth do you do with 100gig???

Interesting question, but all seem to be a matter of personal interest. My TelstraClear cable account comes with 80GB, and I barely use 50GB/month - including daily 1GB backup from the Geekzone server to my local server...

Others have different interests...

The problem with downloading Torrents is that typically you will upload maybe 2x the amount of data you actually download unless you throttle your upload speeds. This means you may only be downloading 30GB in a month but uploading 60GB to other people.

To be honest I'm not sure quite where it all goes. The connection is shared between 6 people who use the internet reasonably heavily and torrents are normally scheduled to download overnight. I would that I myself would have gone through at max 10GB down. Mainly on TV shows....

Well, that's 16+GB per person - not an excessive amount by any stretch.

I've found with torrents that unless I leave the torrent alive to seed for quite a while after I've finished downloading, I never come close to uploading as much as I download - even for new torrents that tend to be leecher-heavy. Filterer's upload to download ratio seem to back that up as well - or maybe he's doing a lot of pure downloading rather than p2p. There always seems to be peers in Sweden or the US that have uncapped & unmanaged broadband plans and are therefore quite happy to seed torrents - meaning other users can download more than they upload. I'm guessing that this is the sort of culture that Telecom wants to discourage from happening in NZ - where a ton of people leave torrents to seed permanently.

I've downloaded just over 210gb this billing month and uploaded nearly 55gb. I can get 250 - 300kBps down using private trackers during the wee hours of the morning using uTorrent setup properly.
