okay, I've got xnet on fibre - wired though the house.

The chap from Chorus said we could use the existing router to make it wireless throughout the house as the xnet router is weak when turned on.

i've plug it in, my iphone finds it but i can't get a internet connection. why?

One can conclude you don't have your existing router configured correctly.

How have you got it set up? You should have DHCP disabled, ensure the IP doesn't conflight with your router, and be plugged into the LAN port of the device.

That doesn't work because the router is not correctly configured. You have to plug something directly to an ethernet port, configure it to disable DHCP, get an address automatically, and if possible configure it to work in bridge mode.

Once you've done that, turn it off, plug to the router and it should work.

If you don't know much about network configuration you might want to get someone to do it for you.

okay, my netcomm router is currently plugged into an ethernet port/RJ data port (same thing right)

How can I reset the properties if i can't access it?

Unplug the Netcomm. You have to plug YOUR computer to the router. Once plugged, run a command prompt to find the IP address for your gateway: IPCONFIG.

This is your router. That's where you will find the configuration pages.

Have you unplugged the old router from your network and plugged a computer directly to it?

Your PC should be able to acquire an IP address, and from there you should find out the router's address via IPCONFIG. Once you have that then you know how to access it to configure things.

this whole thread confuses even me, i'm sure what the op wants to do is have his wifi access point set to bridge mode, it won't have a conflicting IP address because it'll automatically get this from the router that's plugged into the ont, right?

Most routers don't have a bridge mode setting. The easiest thing is to simply disable DHCP and plug into the LAN port. Without knowing the model however it's not possible to really say much more.
