Just came across the first of many future ads for naked DSL I'm sure....

$79.95/mth...  Full speed.  Phone (VOIP, iTalk).  Data cap, unknown....  Launch, Nov 20th.

If it's a decent data cap (>30Gb), then it isn't too bad at all!  Can't wait for the other ISPs to come into the competition!

I think in the forums it's got a 6g cap and is fs/fs.

Haven't checked the Slingshot forum as yet but I rang the help desk about it yesterday and was told that the data cap was unlimited; that the contracts were from 6, 12, and 18 months and all hardware would be supplied. 
I asked if this applied to the 6 month contract, she put me on hold, then I got cut-off.  Oh well....

Unlimited?

I wouldn't trust any unlimited plan at that price.

If it's got a 6Gb cap only, that's....  "tiny"!  For that price anyway!

Oh well...  6 more days to go, for the final offer...

The price is kind of normal looking to me. It's a FS/FS connection.
It's got iTalk VOIP which is normal around $10 and you can have ya landline number ported to it.

Data can be brought in more blocks as you need it.  I think the 50gig block costs $30 - $40

I would like to see caps not expire and the price of data blocks to drop.

So does this mean that as of 20th Nov the whole "10 Customers per day / New customers only" limit is lifted and the price is set in concrete and Naked DSL in New Zealand really starts? It's seems pretty hard to get the facts and timelines as to when things a going to happen, just a little while Orcon anounced that they would be offering Naked DSL/VOIP from September! Yeah right! Does the Commerce commision set the price for naked DSL and have they done it yet or is that what will happen on the 20th. Maybe just me but it's rather confusing!!! ??

Are there any other ISPs offering naked dsl?

I'm with Slingshot right now, and if somewhere else has a better deal, then I'd swap to it easily (given that Slingshot's service is... nothing to write home about) but if not, then Slingshot is okay for me. It's not that bad.

So, anyone else doing or planning to do ndsl?

Yes there is another company that have got various ndsl plans and that is kiwilink check this link http://www.kiwilink.co.nz/high-speed-internet.php?gclid=CMLqrISf2o8CFR7xYAodDDVk4A I am still going to wait for xnets plans as I have my internet and vfx phone service with them and knowing xnet I will probably get good value for money with the 2 services

Yes most definetly in fact we have quite a few at present switched to it...we don't want to anonuce when pricing is still up in the air ,we are running through trials at the moment as I said and have been for a little while it has shown up some holes which are getting worked through at present with ourselves and Telecom.


btw , our VOIP traffic dosn't come off your data CAP when your ADSL is with us, something to bear in mind Wink

Just abit of info, from a call I had with Xnet last week....

Apparently, you can "ask" for Naked DSL.  The customer rep told me that they could enable naked dsl on the "second pair" on the phone line (or something like that), although service is not guaranteed...

It was in regards to me hoping to move house, and bringing my number over to VFX.

Owch Kiwilink is quite expensive, so much for Naked DSL being a good deal. Hopefully further pricing by other ISP's will be offered.

Remember that Naked DSL is not going to be the advent of $10 all you can eat broadband. Its no magic bullet. There will be a slight drop in prices, but don't expect there to be a $42 drop because remember that you're only removing the POTS voice service out of the equation. There is still the matter of copper cabling, wiring maintaince etc which was previously built in the POTS price.

With services like cellphones, and VoIP (italk and VFX), you can get that monthly rental down if you are prepared to go either 100% mobile, 100% VoIP, or a combination of the two. So for some, its a great oppurunity to reduce their monthly bill, for others - they may find that removing POTS voice service not worth the hassle.

At the moment I'm paying $79.95 a month, with fs/128kb, call anywhere in NZ for free, 20gb data cap. Of course this is only for a year then Orcon will tack on the phone rental again but hopefully by then there will be another solution.

Of course there is one other option I've been looking at and that is using satellite, which I can also get for $79.95 a month, the speed is only 1mb / 256kb, plus it's only a 10gb data cap. That's with a VoIP line. The added benefit being not having to deal with DSL/Telecom at all.

So I'll wait and see, no rush for me at the moment to change (Apart from the real bad service).
