Story Link: Apple Introduces Safari for Windows

So what do you reckon? Is Safari a good browser and will it be a player in the Windows market? The video demo on the Apple site makes it look interesting and I'll be having a look when I get home.

Posted here before. Chiefie's comments: "it doesn't like proxy servers". My comments: fast, but it doesn't like Newsgator and a couple of other AJAX applications.

It's beta anyway, and not to go live untl October...

So far I like it. I think I have had enough of Firefox leaching all my VM, every two days I have to kill Firefox because it cosumes too much resource.

I'm not sure about it. Safari works just fine with most sites but...

The font-smoothing/anti-aliasing isn't as good as ClearType. Produces fuzzy type in fact, and can't be turned off.
No zooming
Print to fit etc? Nope.
Ctrl-Backspace doesn't work - why????

I have 'font smooting - strong' enabled and it looks good on my little laptop LCD, very clear.

D'oh! Didn't see that.

Certainly doesn't like the proxy at my work so can't really have a proper play although, from the 2 secs I did spend on it, I reckon it's be nice if you could opt not to have the brushed metal look in the final release (it's always the small things that irritate the most).

I just posted to my linkblog a link (what else?) to an article comparing the Windows ClearType and the Mac OS (and Safari) font-smoothing - and the Mac one is losing the battle: "Welcome to the blurry, but faster, browser..."

Apple's approach would be preferred by people who prefer purity of form over absolute readability.

Does anyone know how to get Safari 3 for Windows to recognise/install digital certificates? Doing a Google only returns links that keep referring to Keychain Access.

I need access to a secure site (for testing purposes), but since I can't find how to install the certificate (IE and FF already see it), I can't access the site.

I like the new Safari for Windows!

Previously, I could never get any browsers (IE7, IE6, Firefox or Opera) to print the Apple MacBook Pro Tech Spec pages properly. And it just prints nicely on Safari.

There is a bug button top left of the browser you can use to send bug reports to Apple.

On the font rendering I think it's a case of not seeing what you're used too, I use a Mac all day and much prefer the Mac/Safari font look.

For web developers it's great having Safari on Windows render exactly like a Mac browser, no excuses for not testing and having your site look great in Safari now.
