About 2 years ago, I decided I am sick of Windows Mobile. After years of developing Windows mobile applications, I was pretty sick of seeing any device that had Windows CE / Windows Mobile on it.

Around that time, I started playing with the Nokia S60 interface of some pre-release Nokia phones - and I got hooked. So I gave away my iMate Windows Mobile device and switched to Nokia [E90 / N95]...

I also love the iPhone and the cool simple tilt sensitive apps it comes with - though I never owned one my self.

However, last night I was reading about the latest build of Windows Mobile. and realized how much I am missing the Windows mobile that I was using for so many years.

So I made a promise to my self that by new year I am going to get a really nice Windows Mobile device. The device need to have the following:

- Comes with Windows Mobile 6.5 (or allow me to upgrade free)
- Have built in mapping and GPS
- Comes with real time traffic [like the GeoVector / AA stuff that the new Navman uses]
- Comes with touch screen like an iPhone
- Has a great battery life
- Has a large screen
- Has a flip number pad for dialling while driving
- Has the media features and touch/tilt based games the iTouch has
- Has the Windows / Office connectivity that I really miss on the Nokia device

What about you - what will you like in your next Windows Mobile device?

I bought a HTC Touch Pro 2 nearly couple of months ago.

- Comes with Windows Mobile 6.5 (or allow me to upgrade free) - YES in October. Running 6.1 Pro atm.

- Have built in mapping and GPS - Need to buy something like TomTom

- Comes with real time traffic [like the GeoVector / AA stuff that the new Navman uses] - don't know if any support NZ?

- Comes with touch screen like an iPhone - YES

- Has a great battery life - YES

- Has a large screen - YES 3.6"

- Has a flip number pad for dialling while driving - YES

- Also has a QWERTY keyboard

If you don't need the QWERTY keyboard then I suggest the HTC Diamond 2 which will also get a free WM 6.5 upgrade.

Do whatever you want to do man.

They do now Apparently (e.g. Navman My500XT). See my link above.

Just curious - Why does n't Vodafone list the full range of HTC phones any more:

The Navman service is a special offer between Navman and AA. I doubt you will see that coming to Windows Mobile anytime soon.

The current htc windows mobile devices are nice but they're just nicer versions of last years devices, with bigger screens and more ram (cpu's the same, 528mhz qualcom).

I'd almost recommend waiting until early next year to see what they're coming out with, I've read some articles about 800mhz + processors etc. But then again if you do that you'd want to make sure it has windows mobile 7 on it too cause apparently that's not too far off either (from what I read). From what it looks like next years phones will be steps ahead of this years phones.

But in saying that, a diamond2 now is 799 on pricespy and the pro2 1095, which are absolutely brilliant phones for the money. I have a diamond2 and I'm very happy with the phone. If you've only ever used actual windows mobile on a phone check out the TF3d videos on youtube, it's a really nice slick UI and hides most of the ugliness of windows mobile.

My next WinMo will be a 1GHz device with WM 7 on it. Hopefully with a generous dose of buttons, like the JASJAM. I mean, what's the point of being able to play PSX games at full speed (Or MAME games, like MetalSlug !), but not being able to get the tactile response that good ol' fashioned buttons give? (Not the hard-plasticky fake-buttons like on the HD). Oh, and a good, well spaced D-Pad as well.

Yeah - I am not in a hurry - I just upgraded my Nokia with the latest SW last week ... And wait till Win Mob 7 next year. Thanks for the advise guys...

None of the Windows Mobile touch screen phones have a "touch screen like the iPhone", and they won't until at least Windows Mobile 7.

This is because Windows Mobile is only compatible with resistive touch screen technology (screens that require stylus).

You will have to wait until Windows Mobile 7 before you can finally buy a WinMo phone with a capacitive screen that will allow you to be significantly more accurate with a finger based input, as well as allowing for technology like multi touch.

What about a non brick looking WinMo....something with an e75 type form factor and no touch (am I the only one who doesn't want a touch phone nowadays??!?).

GPS, WiFi, 3g etc numeric keyboard and slide out querty. About 8 mm think.
