Trying to use bluetooth to Activesync an iPAQ H3970 with Sony's latest Bluespace NE software on a Vaio but Activesync (3.7.1) refuses to recognize the iPAQ. Vaio recognizes the iPAQ and vice versa but Activesync (on PC) insits it cannot connect as the device is not recognized. Virtual serial port on Vaio is COM 4 -- set iPAQ to use this in Bluetooth Manager Actions menu and always use iPAQ to instigate connection. Followed all instructions in the articles on this site. Still exasperated. Any suggestions ? Sony-link helpline totally useless.

Is the COM4 the incoming (or server) port in your Vaio?

Have you set this as the COM port to use in the ActiveSync 3.7.1 settings?

Yes on both counts. The serial port on the Vaio is COM4 and I've set this using Activesync connection settings. Bluespace tells me I'm connected via COM4 but Activesync doesn't recognize the device trying to connect. Vaio-Link said they couldn't guarantee a connection with Bluespace using anything other than a CLIE. Great help those boys !

Today or tomorrow I'll receive the Clie UX50 for review, and after this a Vaio with Bluetooth (next week or so). I'll have a look on this them - can't do much without a laptop with this specific software.

If anyone else have ideas here...

I'm facing the same problem with an iPaq 2215 and a Sony Via Z1-RA laptop with a Sony PCGA-BA1/A USB Bluetooth adapter running Bluespace NE. I've spent a lot of hours with the Sony support people but no resolution. Spent some time with HP support too. The online support technician could not resolve the issue and the phone support person said that since the software warranty had expired they could not help - even though he acknowledged that it seemed like an Activesync problem.

I read a suggestion somewhere that Sony's older Bluespace software might work better - but I cannot seem to find that for download anywhere. The Sony support technician could not find it on their internal site either.

Also having same problem with my HP5550 and Sony Vaio PCG-TR1MP. I think its due to the sony laptop only have a virtual coms port and not linking it with a 'real' one. That way Activesync cant see the coms port correctly ?

The virtual serial port should be ok. Do you have any personal firewall running? Check this thread.

Nope. I saw this on the Vaio support site yesterday which should answer this thread - although not very satisfactorily !

Solution 22367

Description:

BlueSpace NE does not synchronise with ActiveSync and Pocket PC.

Solution:

The VCOMM driver (a virtual serial port) used by BlueSpace NE only guarantees a bluetooth connection with CLIE and HotSync and the establishment of a modem station. A connection with PocketPC is not guaranteed.

Good old Sony !

It brings us to the question: When a Bluetooth Serial Profile is not a Bluetooth Serial Profile?

It all should be the same. I think they answer like this just like "Look we only support Sony Vaio and Sony Clie. Don't come with questions about anything else..."

Thanks for the pointer!

I went through those loops with the Vaio help line in October -- nice to see they're not responding to demand.

I'm not sure if the newer verison of the Bluetooth drivers and Bluespace NE will help at all. I made the mistake of installing the new BT drivers and then the *new* version of Bluespace - only to find that the version of Bluespace doesnt seem to change and now my VCOMM driver has disappeared aswell as my BT Com port (4)..............I now have a call outstanding with Vaio support but presumably they'll ask me to reinstall the software from the recovery disks. That'll teach me to try and use the most current drivers !

to be honest cal i think u have to take the blame on this one.u have purchased a product there that obviously has compatibility issues.u should know that sony products are designed to be very much exclusive to sony products .the vaio-link boys were spot on telling u that u should have thought b4 purchasing

Does anyone know a link to the older versions of the Bluespace software, the one they had before the 'NE' version? I wanted to try installing that to see if the problem was only with the newer version.

Hi-

for the record, I have a Sony Vaio Z1RMP and an iPAQ 1940. I can get them to connect via Bluetooth, but when I try to use ActiveSync (from the iPAQ), I get a 'Device not recognized' window popping up on my Vaio.

Does someone know what the exact issue is here?

Is it

a) Sony's hardware stack not fully Bluetooth compliant?
b) Sony's Bluespace NE not Bluetooth standard?
c) ActiveSync software problem?

Basically, all I want to know is if there's a chance that a software fix (on the vaio or ipaq) will do it, or if it's down to the hardware (if this is the case I'm assuming it's the Sony side of things).

Has anyone had any success here?

One more thing, great to find this site and this forum.

Tom

I have exactly the same problem with a Sony Z1 (overpriced) and the brand-new iPAQ 4150.

it is a shame that Sony software is so unreliable, I've had many problems with other Sony software before and their support has always told me to go away. Even when there are simple things that could be fixed by any developer in two minutes I am still told to go away.

And to think I spent four hours thinking I was not following the instructions properly before I found these posts. The common thread is obviously Sony Bluespace NE.

Does anybody know if it is possible to use some different software to manage the Bluetooth on our Sony PCs?
