thanks manhanli but should i wait for my broadband to be cut, as xnet said there will be a time where my internet wont work? then do it after?

If you've already been switched to Xnet ADSL, then your details should work in your modem, and there won't be a 'cut'.

If the details don't work then obviously you haven't been switched over, and the disconnection will happen some point in the future.

i already had the correct settings for xnet already in my router so i just changed the username and password. I held down the reset button for 10 secs before. I enterned the information and rebooted the modem, but the adsl ethernet and status lights on it where all flashing at once which doesnt normally happen. also internet exploxer didnt work so i switched it back to xtra username and password. whats wrong? i rang them up yesterday afternoon, how long would it take from them to switch you over? how long does the actuall process take?

xtra stopped working and now xnet is! i used to get around 2200kbps download now i get 2900kbps download. i know its slow but how come? busy exchange? i live in epsom would that effect my speed?

700kbps improvement is not too bad really. What you can expect will depend on your distance from the exchange and the quality of your line. If you post the status from your router (Sync Rates, Line Attenuation and SNR) we can work out roughly what will be possible in your case.

Oh, and did you check that all your phones have filters???

Connection rate

downstream = 3456 Kbps
upstream = 160 Kbps

I noticed my downstream connection rate has increased, but i see all my ports i forwarded have been deleted besides one that was always there and i never touch. I mainly got xnet cause u can get them to turn interleaving off for lower ping. Should i do it and will it effect me connection download and upload speeds?

I think you have your Downstream and Upstream Attenuation are the wrong way around -- please check it.

Assuming that Downstream Attenuation is 43dB, this would make your location approx. 3.1km from the exchange.

Your Downstream Connection Rate of 3456kbps is also the reason your Speedtest result is limited to 2900kbps.

In order to improve the situation, you would need to install a Master Filter, and even then, you may not notice much improvement. Basically, you are too far from the exchange to get any faster speed.

Turning interleaving off may give a small improvement in speed on the best lines with FS/FS connections, but TBH, I think your distance from the exchange will be the limiting factor.

What about filters on the phones? Did you check them???

i doubled checked the downsteam is 22.0dB and i have one filter that pugs into the main wall where i get internet from, one on a phone, another one on another phone, and i think one with the alarm i dont no havent checked but if there needs to by 1 there there is is probaly 4 in total. could i un plug a filter and would it increase my speed, would it do any harm? i unplug the one going into the wall lots switching my internet around.

I used to also get around 45-60 in a nz sever for css now i get around 35. and with internleaving off xnet said it may lower it by another 30 so it may be around 5 ping. Can i simply tell them to turn it off in a email?

Hmmmm -- something strange is happening here, you should be getting much more than 2900kbps if your downstream attenuation is only 22dB

Please post your Noise Margin or SNR figures as well, that may give a clue.

That all sounds OK. Your alarm should also have a filter though. Do you have any Sky Decoders or Fax machines? If so, they will need a filter too.

No, don't do that, you will make the situation worse.

Your Ping results sound OK. You can request Interleaving to be turned off however you like:

Phone or e-mail it shouldn't matter. Might take a day or two though.

For phones, you can use both the left and right types of filters.

For modems/routers, you can only use the one shown on the right (this is obvious, as it states "ADSL" on it), or don't use a filter at all.

So make sure that you've got the right one.

It seems the 302G has the SNR ("Noise Margin") in the USB software, not sure about the web interface.

No, that doesn't sound right

I know nothing about PS3s, but Wikipedia says they have an Ethernet port, so hopefully it is correct.

In this case, you should plug your PS3 into a Router or Ethernet Switch, definitely NOT the wall socket or a filter. I cannot see how the PS3 could possibly connect to the internet as you have it connected at present.

no my computer is about 4-5 meters away from the wall jack. and the wall jack is about 3 meters away from the ps3. computer and ps3 is 8 meters away. so i have to move all the internet cords ethernet plug adsl cord and power cord from the computer all the way to the ps3 but i re plug in the adsl filter because the cord can be reached to the ps3. i have about 20 meter extention to the computer so the wall jack cord can reach the computer. its a bit confusing
