Looking at setup costs for Xnet Fusion, and see that I need to pay approx $20 to keep my number and purchase a PAP2T for the phone.......
Is there anything else Im liable to be pinged for by switching over ?
I see the site mentions "Transfer with a required change of Port" - what exactly does this mean and will it be another cost for me ?

Im currently on ADSL with Ihug and have a Telecom installed central filter.

For what it's worth, i'd go with the SPA2102 over the PAP2T.

Negligable increase in investment cost ($20-40 pending your source, and availability), which might prove it's worth through not having as many set-up issues. Also if you have a modular setup instead of an all-in-one it can ensure a degree of Quality of Service by being placed between the modem and the router.

Of coarse, other's milage may vary and i'm sure there are plenty of positive reviews. Port forwarding and static IP's are a must with PAP2T's from my own experience.

As i alluded to above: some see hardware as a cost, others as an investment.

Some of those costs are directly copied from the comcom report and when WxC listed it on their site no one actually knew what it is. I think it has to do with when you need to get switched from another ISP's equipment back to Telecom equipment.

Suggest you do not get the PAP2T. It is not bad, but apparently the other usnits are better as they support other CODECs needed for fax (and maybe 3-way calling).

It is harder switching from an ISP other than Xtra. Don;t know the status on that, but apparently other ISPs do not cooperate as well as Telecom.

Yes, $20 to keep your number and you need to buy the ATA device. I prefer the SPA2102, but actually have the WRTP54G. An ATA-only device makes it convenient unplugging it and taking it with you when you e.g. visit family for a couple of days or if you are overseas on business and want to take the ATA with you and call home for free (like taking your NZ landline with you in your suitcase!).

re: Now edited for the PC and to keep all happy - Name calling - Im just frustrated with them.... besides, I use to have an email address with them that put them down majorly. I worked for them at the time. Im sure they can handle it ;)

Thanks for the heads up on the PAP2T etc, will have to tweak the budget a tad.

2102 for my call, a couple of reasons as well,

The PAP2 is an older device but is pretty good unit, however some routers (generally cheap lower cost ones) can cause it issues i.e it stops passing traffic back to the unit, generally the 2102 dosn't due to some extra settings that are oly available in that unit and later models (wrp400) etc.

Thanks for that Maverick, only a few dollars difference to be explained to the wife in getting the other unit ;)

Also, Niel mentioned in his post about swapping from another ISP to Xnet can be troublesome - this correct or has it been smoothed out now ? :)

Should be okay now, intially there was no process to go from another provider to WXC when Naked DSL was launched , ie it was only from Telecom to WxC not Slingshot to WxC or vise versa, so the only option was to go back to Telecom first and was very messy process for all, should be a lot better now though.
