I just found this press release in my RSS feeds:

New Zealand Service Provider Delivers Converged IP Services With Juniper High-Performance Broadband Services Router
WorldxChange Selects E320 for Superior Density, Performance and Reliability

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that New Zealand’s WorldxChange has deployed Juniper Networks E320 Broadband Services Routers to enable the quality delivery of advanced Voice over IP and high value Internet services. With sophisticated, hierarchical quality of service features, the E320 BSR enables WorldxChange to deliver premium voice and data services over a single connection, using a range of diverse access technologies, and ensuring the performance of each service. WorldxChange has also deployed Juniper Networks Secure Services Gateways (SSGs) to secure its services and backend systems, including its domain name system (DNS) servers.

“Demand for advanced services continues to grow, and we need to capitalize on that growth by driving down network costs and increasing ARPU with innovative new services,” said Paul Clarkin, director at WorldxChange. “The E320 offers the scale and feature set we need to simplify subscriber provisioning, reduce our back office costs, and speed the development and delivery of compelling new services, giving us a strategic advantage: the ability to rapidly expand our customer base and service portfolio while maintaining an efficient operations environment and tightly controlling network costs. The fewer boxes to manage, the better.”

The E320 supports high subscriber density, high system capacity and high-density Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, enabling WorldxChange and other service providers to effectively support the high bandwidth, large scale demands of next-generation IP-based services. In the two years since it was introduced, more than 1600 E320 platforms have been shipped to over 70 service provider customers worldwide.

The SSG product family are purpose-built security appliances that deliver a perfect blend of performance, security and LAN/WAN connectivity, with a complete set of optional Unified Threat Management (UTM) security features including stateful firewall, IPSec VPN, IPS, antivirus, anti-spam and Web filtering for comprehensive application and network protection.

“Innovative service providers around the world are looking to Juniper to help them monetize their network—drive down costs while increasing revenue by accelerating the delivery of innovative new services,” said Shaun Page, Juniper’s vice president for Australia and New Zealand. “Our E320 and SSG solutions provide WorldxChange with the service-enabling network infrastructure that enables them to expand and accelerate service model innovation and truly monetize their network.”

yeah, I remember that (installing the junipers last year). If I remember rightly a local announcement about the install, mentioning they had the biggest backplane in the country (320gig I think)?

As an aide - Telecom run the E320 as well, and I think have had T320s installed since 2004.

Telecom actually use a combination of ERX-1440's & ERX-710's... but they do use T320's in their core... although the M/T series is completely different to the E-Series routers...

Almost there - no 1440s or E320s at TNZ.

does that mean our Voip will improve in sound quality? We won't need to buy any device right cos it says that their hardware is doing the upgrade?

yeah I've seen the ERXs and bloody hell! How many people does it take to lift one of those (and the E320 isn't exactly small either). I'm sure I saw an E320 at the telecom testing lab on tory street, on the ground - 3 racks back from the meeting room? Big black thing - comes up to about waist height (how's that for technical terminology).Laughing Hmmmm......was that before or after coming back from the pub across the road.....

You probably did see it in the lab (blue/white on the front, back/sides black).  You won't find them in the production network, though. Weighs about 100kg - nowhere near as heavy as the T320 (160kg), and the T1600s are a real nightmare (300kg).

Getting back on topic: are WxC using their E320 in anger now that the press release is out? Do they have more than one? Eggs and a basket spring to mind...

Thanks Pen - that clears it up nicely (thought I was seeing things there for a while). I thought technology was supposed to be getting smaller! (if I remember rightly too - aside from the weight the power requirements are pretty impressive too).

lol! I've always thought wasted height was crawling on all fours (or maybe its being completely comotose) ?

Is it really nessessory for WXC to use one of these E320's (the way staff have spoken about it makes it sound like 1). or two in a redundant setup. Would they even have enough users to slightly tax it or does anyone know if they were simply future proofing and trying to cut back on perhas setup costs and maintanance of a number of seporate devices to performs the same functionality?

Either way it's not working right now, trying to enjoy a wet friday nights gaming...For anyone who's not a gamer, you would expect a constant 200-400ms ping to US gaming servers..
