In the next couple of months, we will be moving back to our house and want to know in advance what fees will be requested. The house has previously had a telecom line into it, however, the tenants currently there are connected via Telstraclear, and the phone line has been connected to their network at the point the line enters the house. Will just the $80 fee be payable for moving house, or, is there some other fee that will be payable to have someone disconnect the Telstraclear line, and reconnect the telecom line?

I would suspect that you would need to pay somebody, simply because a technician will need to visit to reconnect the Telecom line. It's only a 1 minute job but unless you have some stotchlok connectors and know what pair to hook up it's not something that can be done by the average person.

There's an overhead line running to our house, and it's as it goes into the house where the connection has been swapped. There's only 1 pair from telecom, 1 pair from Telstraclear, and 1 pair going into the house - so, not too much difficulty in swapping them over. I'd quite happily do it myself - if I had some Scotchlok connectors (I think the gel filled ones from DSE won't accept the guage wire from outside), and, more importantly, I think that this is on Telecoms side of the demarcation point, and, I don't think they would be particularly impressed if people were reconnecting to their network...

If I do have to pay - at least it's more like a 5 minute job - as you have to climb up a ladder to get to the entry point...

Are you sure TCL own the line from the demark to the exchange? In my experience TCL lease TNZ lines in areas where they don't have their own copper. It could just be as easy as asking for a new line.

Remember in Wgtn & Chch that TCL have their own network!

TCL has disconnected the Telecom line into the house and connected their line to the house (house is in Petone - tenants have cable modem / phone through TCL).
