How good is xnet any more compared to last year? has it got any worse or better to do with download speeds. On xtra i get around 400kb a sec will i expect around the same speed in xnet. Looking to change as for $45 i can get i think 12gb on x net but only 3gb with xtra at $40

Suggest you read the recent threads in this forum, particually around international and peak speads..

I do not recommend xnet anymore. Threads all indicate the bigger players are performing best.

My opinion: dont change...xnet were horrible performance wise, so I left and went to Telecom....much better at Telecom

I agree with the other posts, dont change, you will be lucky to a 10th of that speed on XNET these days. They seem to be heavily oversubscribed.

I am in Auckland and Xnet has a few Minor niggles like youtube freezes and the webmail keeps falling over.
The helpdesk is local and very helpfull and I normally get through after a few seconds.
400k is not normally a problem for me but I am on FS/FS NDSL ( I had over 500k the other day at 8pm )
Reading the forums I would avoid the torrent plan.

Not sure if my exchange has go busy or if they have modified my profile but about a year ago i wasy syncying to the exchange at about 6.5mbs now its down to about 5mbs mmmmm dont do much downloading mainly xbox pear to pear host type games seem to get a better connection to the americans that i do to nz or au over all have not had a problem

Hu? did i do that?
16Mb (EDO RAM), K6-II processor, 2Mb of onboard graphics. 32k dial up modem. 12 speed CD ROM. 5¼-inch floppy drive. 500Mb HDD.

Im with xnet on and here is my usage so far. Psst im on the torrent plan and its no good. Oh and by the way I have left utorrent on, constantly downloading all month so far :P

xnet usage

Lol and I am on adsl1 :D. Without my data usage my plan costs like $50NZD inc GST. Very bad plan. Allso my exchange got jitter. I am not impresed at all :(. Look at it not even half way through the month and its allready over $125... Oh and the exchange broke this month, rung telecom cause the internet and phone was down and they told me, down for about 4hrs maybe more :(. Oh and it was also down another night for a few hours (router could not authenticate with server, could send the signal but server didnt accept the authentication details). So internet down 2x in a 12day period, +$137NZD for internet +telecom landline, +cellphone. Very unsatisfied with our telecomunications services.

Speeds very slow. Should have used much more but it was to slow to. Oh and for $137 I do not expect the internet to go down ever. :( I am being exploited.

Oh and I got a huge list of Trace RTS that show 9% packetloss at the 2nd jump (WXC equipment) and 0% at my routers which is the 1st jump, of trace rts taken over a 48hr period of time using a tracert program. Lol 9% is almost 10%. 10% is to close to 100. :(. very very unhappy. Want a refund. :( should be paid to put up with this crap. Look only 57GB :(.

And omg their speeds are so slow. Got this of google. Lol. Not to fast Not to fast at all on avverage.

(72 GB) over (12 days) = 72.8177778 KBps

as stated by everyone here speeds are crap, it's not just the torrent plan xnet's speeds are crap across the board.

youtube consists of pushing play, waiting for it to start, pushing pause so it doesn't play->buffer->play->buffer, waiting 10 minutes once it's loaded and then playing. only reason I'm still with them is because i'm moving cities early next year. you can def assume i will not be signing up with them once i've moved.

amazingly enough I would rather lock into a contract with the likes of telecom than be open plan and this third rate net xnet provide. *sigh*

Hey just because some people in congested areas doesn't mean that it's bad everywhere and that it's xnet's fault that some people in some areas get rubbish speeds.

I have xnet Fusion at work, home and on some customer sites and it doesn't vary much from the following results. There's a variation between the sites, but very little variation during different times of the day.

I'm happy with xnet and although there's been a couple of minor (in my opinion) outages last week I'll continue to support the competition. There's lots more advantages with being with xnet - I mean does Telecom offer something like "Friend-x-change"? Don't think so. Speaking of outages, the worst I've ever experienced with xnet lasted no longer than 3 hours and that's pretty good considering some of the outages Telecom have.

Disagree with mwalford - Since being on Orcon I've enjoyed constant speeds, where-as on XNET the national speeds were good, but international was always crap - totally unusable during peak (4pm onwards), and managable in the mornings..

Pleased you've got a provider you're happy with. Like I said, it's not the same for everyone everywhere. You had a poor experience and in Chirstchurch I'm enjoying a very good experience.

The last week or two my international bandwidth is faster. At 7:30 last night I could watch YouTube without any buffering. It loaded 2 to 3 times faster than the play rate. I do not normally watch YouTube, it was simply a test to see where things are at after reading this thread. I decided not to bother replying because of past experiences when doing so, but today I'm in a happy mood being married 12 years so I decided to say "me too". I also get good speed all teh time. If I did not, then I would complain and if it was not sorted I would change ISP, but getting around 6Mbps international is good enough for me so no complains from Pakuranga, Auckland.

Cheers Niel you've reminded me to do try the speeds internationally and they seem as good as yours so...

1. Happy anniversary (I assume that's what you mean by 12 years)

2. Good someone is in a good mood.

International speed is at least half decent so again I'm happy with my xnet results as always

International.

I too am a current Xnet subscriber, went on their fusion plan when it first came out and was on their normal plans for 1.5 years, but this year the speeds are terrible.

Wouldn't recommend them to anyone at the moment. It cuts out a lot too, lose the phone(VoiceOIP) and Net at least 1-2 times a day. Same with the mates I've recommended, which I still haven't got FriendxChange for :( 6 month wait on FriendXChange it seems.

I'm definitely wanting to change out, speeds at night are unbearable, round 32kbp after 10pm

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

That's a shame. Again, I've not experienced anything nearly as bad as some people here and nor have we at work. My WAG54GP2 at home is always active and in my time since connecting the DSL in February, it's only been inactive no more than half a dozen times for a combined total of about 6 hours. At work it's better still since we run DVX for the phones through Cisco gear and it's been better than at home since the hardware is a bit higher grade.
You say you wouldn't recommend xnet to anyone? In my situation it's been nothing but a great experience. Would you also *not* recommend them to me?
