I'm getting quite big download speed differences (iPhone 6 + returning between 36.70 and 5.18 3 hours apart) and also device differences (iPhone 40% faster on same network from same place as Surface Pro 4).

Any suggestions why?

I'm in a small, rural village 3km out of town, so not likely to be a sudden huge number of extra users appeared in the last 3 hours...!

Antenna layout, mimo configuration, supported channel widths, what band they are choosing can all affect it.

im guessing you are testing to a speed test server? if so then its probably not your wifi speed you are testing its more likely your internet speed you are testing/seeing

see if you can find a LAN wifi speed testing app, that will test your wifi between devices in your house.

you are using RBI for your internet connection arent you? speeds can vary greatly minute to minute

The Surface Pro 3 and 4 have both been plagued with driver issues.

The Surface Pro 3 has a number of driver updates and patches to help with these issues - poor wireless performance, inability to tell if it is docked or not and screen clarity to name a few.  If you have upgraded the Surface Pro to Windows 10 you may need to install some of the original Windows 8.x drivers to get any performance stability.

Unfortunately the Surface Pro 4 doesn't have as many driver updates and patches so still has some driver performance issues.

you should not need to load any Win8 drivers onto a Surface Pro 3 running Win10

It would be great to know if you still are actually having problems after last weeks Surface firmware and hardware updates that are available on Windows Update.
