As the website structure of Spark's support page has been changed, there is no download link for the latest firmware of their routers, does any one have a backup download link of them? Much appreciated!

Took a little while to confirm all of this for ya.

I now have a handy copy of all the firmwares, I'm more than happy to flick you a copy via email. - Would prefer not to temporarily shove it on one of my servers and post a public link...

Online team have confirmed they will be readding external links, these never were meant to be gone.

Much appreciated!

I had to recover an hg659 modem recently when a friend tried to flash some vodafone firmware on an original vodafone modem that had bigpipe firmware on it unsuccessfully.

I had to use the steps here to recover the modem
https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=66&topicid=195711

I ran into the same problem as this as only the spark firmware would work.
http://community.vodafone.co.nz/t5/Modems-Wi-Fi/HG659-Can-t-update-firmware-only-Spark-firmware-works/td-p/208120

To find the link to HG659V100R001C227B011_packet.bin, I used the cached page of
http://community.vodafone.co.nz/t5/Modems-Wi-Fi/HG659-Wifi-very-flaky/m-p/170285/highlight/true

Which had a link to
http://help.telecom.co.nz/app/answers/detail/a_id/35558

which was also unavailable. Eventually, I was able to find a link to

http://www.spark.co.nz/help/internet-data/equipment/huawei/hg659-gateway/update-modem-firmware-huawei-hg659/

Which, no longer had the firmware on it. Using the wayback machine

https://web.archive.org/web/20170108215050/http://www.spark.co.nz/help/internet-data/equipment/huawei/hg659-gateway/update-modem-firmware-huawei-hg659/

I was able to find a link and find the HG659V100R001C227B011_packet.bin firmware here.

https://web.archive.org/web/20170313035631if_/http://www.spark.co.nz/content/dam/kb/private/attachments/35557/HG659V100R001C227B011_packet.bin

Once the spark firmware was on the device,I was then able to do a hardware reset, then a software reset through the web page, then, I was able to flash the bigpipe firmware successfully.

Not sure if the above is the latest firmware for it (firmware for hg659b is also available), however, similar approaches could be used if needed for later firmware.

Hours of fun.

Hopefully this will help people searching for HG659V100R001C227B011_packet.bin for whatever reason.

Edit - just to be clear, The above links were for the hg659 modem. The HG659b firmware would be

http://www.spark.co.nz/content/dam/kb/private/attachments/36905/HG659bV100R001C227B022_main.bin

according to the above. I have not used the HG659b firmware.

Ok for some unknown reason following this and using the HG659V100R001C227B011_packet.bin firmware. loaded properly (though now i feel i may not have been waiting long enough when i was first trying it! but who knows) and my hg659b lives again, had to go back into rescue mode to load the correct firmware and yes! works again :D so glad!

Thanks also to hio77 for passing on the firmware and for the exchanges in pm!

i still gotta fix the one sitting here..

Packet firmware may be the go, just haven't been in a good position to be able to pull out my eth link.

I did pull down the latest version and try to push that on to unbrick.

I would still love to know why the changes i made bricked it, was it an error in the re-encryption or did  it really not like me adjusting wireless limits...

Fully expecting when i get into the office on monday and check in with a test case, imma have to dig back into these limits and bricking again...

@jnimmo @MCONZ

per my comments i was only sending this out via email.

I'm in the process of dumping a few of these onto one of my personal webservers temporarily given demand (sending from home SUCKS, 20MB file on adsl ergh outlook does not like.)

I don't intend for my personal servers to be hit heavily with resources the folk in the office are restoring (likely be in this week it's all back up since brownout should be over) but i'll link the cloudflare backed ones as to not divert resources from my other scripts sitting there.

Latest B022 Firmware

Older B018 firmware (Packet series for unbricking - Please do upgrade to the newer firmware and factory reset after to clear all out older crap out)

Is B022 still the latest?

The router here is V100R001C227B020

Thank you so much for dolsen's post which finally solved the problem. You've brought my long bricked HG659 back to life.

Which is the best firmware for this router? I am doing some testing as I was having some issues with a device connected to FritzBox 7490 loosing internet from time to time so I am using HG659 on V100R001C206B020 and so far haven't seen that device loose internet so unless there is any improvement in another version or the latest VF firmware, is there a point in upgrading?
