What is your favorite 3d party app for the iPhone. I will endeavor to create a top 5. Please state which version of the firmware you are running. There are some apps like Installer which should be a given, so I'm looking for apps that do not jailbreak, sim unlock etc..

iPhone
  • OTB Firmware: 1.0.2
  • Current Firmware: 1.1.3
Apps
  • Screenshot
  • Taskbar Notifier
  • Websearch (Modified with NZ sites)
  • Linka,GZ and Digg Webclips
Taskbar notifier is the most useful app ever. If you've not used it, any time you get and email, text or missed call it puts an icon in the taskbar next to the battery. It means you don't have to slide to unlock everytime you want to ave a quick look to see if you have an email or whatever. You can just press the home button, or sleep button, to switch the screen on and you will be able to see.

I have tried other apps but as I don't REALLY need to them I have taken them off. One thing I have noted, Customize doesn't work properly with 1.1.3 (well atleast not for me)

hi nzbullet,

have tried to install from installer but it says "source not found" - do you have another source to add to installer?

thanks

I intalled it from STE source. Add this to your list of Sources: http://repo.smxy.org/iphone-apps/ (make sure you include the last /)

Cheers

Running 1.1.3 on OTB 1.1.1.

Fav apps are:

  • #1 by far is "Labyrinth" - best game ever. Great use of the iPhones accelerometer :P
  • iSolitaire - okay, so I like games :)
  • Converter - fantastic tool for converting various measurements
  • 5 Dice - Yahtzee for the iPhone
  • BossPrefs - let's me esily turn on/off SSH, Edge etc. It used to also let you "attach" apps and hide the icons from teh home screen. This meant you could put all your Settings like apps in there and access it all from one Icon. Unfortunately this feature no longer works in 1.1.3 so am waiting for a fix.

I know it doesn't really apply here but I think WebClips (introduced in 1.1.3) are fantastic. Espcially when you find the website you "clip" has a proper webclip icon like GeekZone does :)

Dare I say it though - whilst I do sincerely appreciate the effort, and I definitely don't want to tread on any toes here... I would like to recommend the icon be replaced as the text appears fuzzy.

I think the reason it's not quite right is possibly because it was created at the exact standard iPhone icon dims of 59x60. If you look at Apple's webclip icon, they have created their's at 129x129. This results in a cleaner image after the scaling and effects (rounded corners and glass effect) are automatically applied by the iPhone. I have found this to be true for the icons I have created... just a suggestion... if anyone is listening... :P (I'll probably regret bringing this up :))

The webclip has been updated. If you have saved the GZ Webclip to your homescreen, please delete it. Then go to the GZ page you want to save and wait for it to fully load, then click on the plus button at the bottom of the screen to re-add the webclip with the new non-fuzzy icon.
