hi

i have a Audiovox ppc5050 cdma phone/ppc combo.

It runs on 1x network.

i want to also use the phone/ppc to connect to my laptop for dial up networking. I have a belkin bluetooth adapter to connect to notebook and am prepared to purchase a Socket SDIO Bluetooth adapter for PPC5050.

I am concerned about this combo working.

Has anyone had success connecting an XDA (Audiovox PPC5050 is XDA using CDMA vs GSM) to a notebook for dial up networking.

Please let me know.

I've used the i-mate Pocket PC Phone Edition to write our Bluetooth Guides. It should work ok, providing you have/know the uer/password required to connect to your operator's CDMA network.

Where do I find the modem emulation on the PPC5050.

Someone was mentioning about a software called Wmodem?

Is this the software required for the PPC5050 to act as a modem for my laptop?

The WMODEM program is on the Program menus (Start | Programs) and looks like this on the PPC 5050:

I tried to connect using IrDA, is there instructions on what to do next.

I disabled my 802.11 connection, disabled Activesync and nothing happened.

I am using XP Pro. Is there something I need to do on the notebook.

The IrDA ports on the PPC5050 and the notebook are see each other and connect.

What am I missing.

I appreciate this assistance, I am one of about 5 people with this issue.

Once I get the IrDA ports to communicate, how do I get the the PPC5050 to dial out to the 1X network.

Mauricio,

One additional question, on the Wmodem screen shot, Bluetooth was not listed as an option, is there an upgrade to a version of Wmodem that has Bluetooth as an option.

I am sorry to ask so many dumb questions, as mentioned earlier, I am one of 4/5 people in Ontario Canada that I know are having the same issue.

Not sure, depends on your Bluetooth card. If it provides an incoming Serial port on your Pocket PC, I guess you could try using it. In my case I'm using the GPRS version (i-mate Pocket PC Phone Edition), which comes with built-in Bluetooth. The options are IrDA, Serial, Bluetooth and USB.

I start the program and select Bluetooth. From my computer I just double-click the SSA profile in My Bluetooth Places, and enter the number to dial (in this case *99#, in your case #777).

My PPC5050 does not have Bluetooth as an software option in Wmodem.

I did try to connect the IrDA ports, I get a pop up saying another computer is near, would you like to transfer files.

No activity happens when I start the Wmodem program, select IrDA and press start.

Is there any setup on the notebook to make this work? Is there anything I need to setup under Pocket PC "connections" section.

I am really over my head on this one, if I can get the IrDA working, it would be helpful.

I now have the IrDA connection, I am getting a connectivity request, it is asking me to set up new connection in settings.

HELP!!!!!!

You shouldn't have to create any new connection on the Pocket PC. On the other hand, Windows 2000 and Windows XP use the IrDA for file transfer only, and you probably would have to add some drivers to make this work on the laptop side.

I have an Acer Travelmate 290, I have emailed request to Acer support. They have a file online for fast IrDA port.

Do I have to make any changes to PPC5050 connections to make this work?

You shouldn't have to make any configuration changes on your PPC 5050. Windows 2000 and XP changed the way IrDA works, and it seems to be used for file transfer and digital camera connections only. Audiovox is the one that should provide a driver for your computer, since its their "modem" (the PPC 5050) that will be used.

Hi,

I checked with Acer regarding software drivers for Acer Travelmate 290 to let the IrDA port do more then file transfer. This is not possible.

The other option is the Bluetooth option. My Wmodem software does not have Bluetooth as an option. The Wmodem software you have must be for XDA II which has bluetooth integrated.

Do you know how I would get an update for Wmodem that includes Bluetooth?

This will be a hard one. It'll depend on what Bluetooth stack is in use. I suspect thr WModem was developed with the Microsoft Bluetooth stack in mind, and if you use with other hardware (like the Socket), then it won't work. Also I guess only HTC can tell you where this software comes from.

There is a windows driver required for wmodem to work through infrared. The driver was written for Win 2000 but it works in XP as well.

This forum has really helped, someone emailed the IrDA driver for XP, installed it and its works fine.

The thing that realy bugs me is that I have called Bell and Audiovox and niether will support this feature. Rather frustrating! The USB serial driver would be very usefull to me as I have a Toshiba 5200 with IrDA.
