Having probs getting my Sony VAIO and SonyEricsson T610 to talk to eachother - the laptop's Phone Monitor control panel doesn't show phone at all, although I'm able to get a dial-up web connection!

So apart from surfing, the Bluetooth connection between the two doesn't let me register/setup the phone on the laptop, synchronize my contacts, or anything else!!

Been to http://clubsonyericsson.com/en/ and read and applied the tutorial on conecting phone and pc, including installing the synch packet software as recommended - but still no phone showing on Phone Monitor control panel.

Sony's Bluespace NE does recognise and authorise the phone, (phone confirms connection), but still can't do anything without the phone then telling me it can't connect (and asking if I want to try again!).

Any help anyone can give would be really appreciated.

ps - running Win XPprof

Thanks in anticipation...

Chris, just a quick note before you try something else... Have a look in our guide on how to sync Sony Ericsson phones using Bluetooth.

Let me know if it doesn't work, and we'll se if other members here have experience with this also.

Chris,

I'm having exactly the same problem with my Z1 Vaio and T610. I'd be interested to know if you found a solution...

Thx for the advice Mauricio - I did check the help pages earlier but not alot of it applied to my equipment - thanks anyhow:)

Stu - I have had some response from SonyEricsson saying that they know about the issue and are working to resolve it. Best estimate I get from them is hopefully by some time in August!!

Not good considering how much you and I have spent on Sony equipment which we bought for specific purpose of communications...

Regs,

Chris

chriscaller, you're right... If you invest so much in equipments that use a standard for communications and are even made by the same (or almost) company you'd expect much more as a result.

Chris,

I gave up on Sony-Ericsson and found a nice piece of software at http://www.myt610.com called Float's Media Control.

It doesn't use Outlook but at least it lets you transfer files, update the address book, send SMS messages from your Vaio, etc. A little buggy but works most of the time.

After I spent a whole night with the same equipment (Sony Vaio Z1SP and Sony Ericsson T610), I am glad I found this discussion. I thought I was getting crazy. But obviously these two items simply are not compatible. Question: Is it maybe because of Bleuspace NE and is there any other software to replace it?

I think the problem is with the 'Phone Monitor' utility that is installed in your control Panel with the Sony-Ericsson software. It can't find the port opened by BlueSpace.

Floats Media control (http://www.myt610.com) connects using the BlueSpace COM port without a problem. If you don't have Bluespace it will also connect via the Microsoft BlueTooth Stack included in Windows XP SP1. This is what I've done with my desktop PC...

So what do you think about just de-installing Bluespace? Will we miss anything?
I tried float as well. Great little program. Anyway - I have a bunch of contacts in my outlook and I am not willing to copy them manually to my phone. That sucks. And float has an annoying problem - I cant transfer very small files like the usual .jad files. :-(

Does Bluespace support PIM Synchronisation?

Hmmm, something happened. During my first attemps the phone monitor at least recognized that there was a COM4 as virtual COM port for the bluetooth adapter. Now COM4 disappeared from the list of the phone monitor. I re-installed the whole Sony Ericsson Communication Suite and the Bluetooth Adapter (not Bluespace NE - where can I download it?). No success at all. Does anybody know what I did wrong?

Response from Sony Ericsson concerning our problem: Download the NEWEST version of Sony Ericsson Communication Suite (31 MB) from our website and try again. It should work with Vaio Z1. I was unable to test it because of the problem described above.

Bought my Z1SP running XP Pro and T610 this weekend and spent half of today trying to get the things to communicate.

The story I have is the same as you guys have described.

For my part, I spoke to SonyEricsson support and no sooner had the words "t610, vaio and bluetooth" left my mouth, the guy said "Let me stop you there. It's Bluespace NE that's the problem." He checked with two of this senior technical colleagues before sending me off to Sony with the info that Sony have been made aware of this problem.

I have now logged a call with Sony Vaio support and I will post the outcome of this here when I hear more.

The only option I have until this problem is fixed is to buy the SE USB cable for the t610 which over here costs £35.

On a related note, the Bluespace installer for the VAIO appears to be available from the Vaio Link web site for the country you purchased it in.

And, I have also tried installing the new SE phone package and also the Float software and nothing happens.

Finally, after digging a little bit on Google groups, it appears that Sony Vaio users are cursed with Bluespace gremlins. See http://groups.google.co.uk/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&safe=off&threadm=3cdb9215%240%2416130%246e365a64%40newsreader02.highway.telekom.at&rnum=4&prev=/groups%3Fq%3Dbluespace%2Bbluetooth%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26oe%3DUTF-8%26safe%3Doff%26selm%3D3cdb9215%25240%252416130%25246e365a64%2540newsreader02.highway.telekom.at%26rnum%3D4 for one example thread.

What's the bet that Sony Vaio Support say the problem is with the Sony-Ericsson software....

You should be able to get the Float software to work though. To connect you should either:

A) Setup the phone in Bluespace and open a serial connection. In float, go to Tools -> Options and select the third option on the Connection tab (Use Serial Port) and specify Port 4.

B) Ignore Bluespace and go to Wireless Link in your Windows Control Panel. Add the phone and take a note of the address (under properties). Mine is 00:0a:d9:8c:39:e5. Go back to float and select connection option 1 (native bluetooth), enter the address above and select Port 2.

Also, make sure you have XP Service Pack 1 installed.

Float doesn't sync with Outlook but at least it gives a cool graph showing your power consumption and battery temperature over time...

Stu,

Your workaround behaves exactly as you said it would. Thanks!

OK, I can live w/out Outlook synching till I get the cable, but I'm off now to stick some midi files and Java apps on the phone.

Latest from Sony - nothing. Call hasn't even been assigned to an engineer 24 hours on.

Hey there -

float is working fine. Thanks Stu for this advice. Anyway, I dont wanna live w/o Outlook. And I am pretty angry about the hotlines. No reply by Sony after 48 hours now.
There are other Bluespace versions (older) available at Vaio Lins website. What do you think - could downgrading solve our problem?
