Last weekend I needed to transfer two files (virtual HD) from the Geekzone server to my home server. Those were disc images of the physical server, converted into virtual HDD for testing. With 26 GB total I didn't want to risk interrupting the transfers half way through.

Enter Blade TS. It is a file transfer system over HTTP/S that allows pause/resume and guarantees the file transfer is complete. It installs quickly and requires almost no configuration. The transfer (over my Hamachi VPN) took about half a day in total time, including a few times it was paused so I could use the network for something else.

Blade is developed here in New Zealand, and after talking to the guys I would like to ask people here in the forums about their opinions, needs, preferences, feature requests regards this kind of product - large and very large file transfer systems.

Any ideas you want to share here? I will pass whatever I get to Blade.

If they can turn it into more of a replacement for standard FTP with advanced features it'd be good.

Would need things like a CLI, support to be scripted for batch operations, multiplatform support. Not sure how good it is as a syncronisation tool at the moment - could be useful for companies with remote workers or small remote branches that want a system to 'passively' syncronise files to an HQ server in the background, with bandwidth control and options to sync on schedule, or on file changes. Essentially a similar thing to Windows DFS but for end users with PCs/Laptops rather than solely between file servers.
There are similar things available I suppose but they often need a VPN or Private WAN to work effectively.

Also the ability to 'publish' new files (eg customer products or new distros etc etc), perhaps using RSS integration or something similar, could be useful. Something where a file gets put in a folder or gets added to some kind of availability list (perhaps with the ability to schedule availability), and a client gets notified and automatically starts downloading it, and ideally both server and client keep a log of what has been downloaded including diagnostic data.
