lchiu7: Hi Wayne

I shouldn't have used the full terms!  What I did was transcode the video to .m2ts format using Tsremuxer. That creates a file that the PCH can play albeit with no audio.

Are you saying you can play the files with no transcoding but with no audio? What firmware are you using?
All my recordings from DVB-T play fine on the PCH, but with no audio. I've never had to transcode any files to get them to play. I cant remember the firmware version number off the top of my head but I'm using the latest firmware (that you currently get when you choose to update your firmware from the settings screen). It also worked with previous releases of the firmware for me.

I did try dynamically converting the audio to AC3 at recording time, and it kind of worked, but unfortunately I couldnt get the combination of directshow filters to produce a file that played smoothly. They always ended up with some timing issues (5 seconds smooth with perfect audio followed by 5 seconds stuttering, smooth, stuttering ... etc).

Syabas are looking at the AAC-HE LATM format but the problem is the Sigma chipset used doesn't natively support this format so they have to write code to do it. That's not eactly on their high priority list given it's just for NZ and Norway!
I dont think its the chipset, but rather some software modules in the SDK that is responsible for decoding AAC etc. A week or so ago they told to me by email that the new Sigma SDK does have some ACC LATM support but they havnt got it working yet. In post on their forums a couple of days ago they indicated the same thing http://www.networkedmediatank.com/viewtopic.php?t=2647 (see the bit mentioning AAC HE).

If people continue to post about it on the NMT forums, then the issue is likely to get more attention, which equals quicker fix for us...

Hi Larry.

Thanks. I will have a look at TSRemuxer out of interest.

Yes I can play the files quite happily in PCH without any transcoding, either as a single programme stream or as a multi stream using the angle key to switch between the programmes. But of course no audio except for the AC3 encoded channels. This used to be TV1 and TV2 before they went stupid and removed them, and now TV3. I am using the latest firmware released early March.

I would still like to find an editor (Like VideoRedo or Womble) that will handle the H264 so I can close up commercial breaks etc. Both these makers say that they are looking at it but no time lines.

At the present moment I have a Hauppauge 3000 and 4000 for recording and have just received 3 technotrends which I will install in my main machine once I have proved everything in the test one. I am currently doing all my recordings off DVBS (Freeview Satellite)

I have been asking on the NMT forum also. I tried to upgrade to the latest firmware but it broke MPEG2 playback for me! I might try again. Also I don't have any DVB-T samples apart from the ones posted in another thread since I have not installed my HVR-3000 card yet. I might do that as a weekend project. Maybe my PCH is broken?

I can't play the Beyonce or Robin Hood HD samples out there either without transcoding which is strange. But once I transcode I get both audio and video in sync.

Larry

PS

How are you guys playing the files?

1. Via SMB mapped to a PC drive
2. Via a server like MyiHome (I have tried both)
3. NFS
4. USB stick

I havnt attempted to play any of these on my PCH, so cant comment either way on these. I've only tried recordings I've made.

Depening what exactly I'm doing, I'm using either SMB shares or the GB-PVR client (which uses HTTP streaming).

I have used 1 which is my main method.

Haven 't got round to installing 2

Have tried off an internal drive.

I can't play any of them so I must have a broken PCH or something. Strange when it can play h.264 files encapsulated in a .mkv container with no problem. Any other ideas?

Thanks

Update

Flashed the PCH with the latest firmware and it now plays all the samples fine (albeit with no audio apart from the Beyonce and Robin Hood ones which have AC-3) audio.  I had done this before but the PCH was acting strangely so I went back one firmware release.   Must have been a bad flash.

So now can't wait till Syabas release firmware that can play the AAC-HE LATM audio.

Make sure you remind them of that from time to time...

Seen on the Syabas forum

[PH] The ACC LATM issue has been discussed and fully aware. We have discuss with Sigma and only support in this upcoming SDK. However, this SDK still in beta stage and will take another few weeks to become gold release. This will only happen sometime in June or July.

So that means we might see PCH support for this audio in a few months?

Lets hope. I'll remind them again in a few weeks and hopefully see if I can get a beta version or something.

Theydhave proviced and update in their forum indicating that perhaps the new firmware might be ready June/July time frame. That might certainly solve my problems with playback of DVB-T streams
