I bought a telecom based galaxy s i900t off from this guy on trade me.
Its brand new one, he only opened the box to take a photo to show me.
He said vodafone sim card works on this phone so i bought it.

My vodafone sim card is working well with txting and calling.
But network seems to disconnect so often and it shows error message.
When i call somebody and if the call goes longer than like 7mins it automatically hangs up i think becasue of disconnection.

Plus 3G is not working. I used to have iPhone 3G but have changed to this phone for some reason.

What should I do now?

Does Telecom based Galaxy S work well on Vodafone network? (txting, calling and 3G)

It should operate correctly, but won't work on 3G out of cities, only 2G.
Calls shouldn't be dropping unless you have bad signal.

Is there a known issue with these? It has the correct spec to work as i described above (in theory).

2G should still be operating fine out of cities.

eXDee is correct.

I've used XT band fones on Vodafone and have only once seen it fall back to 2G (GSM) outside city areas..

More relevant to your case - in this situation the Galaxy has the exact same frequencies as your old iPhone 3G, so you should be getting roughly the equivalent 2g and 3g coverage.

I live in North shore where is supported with 3G broad band by VF network..

maybe its cuz i dnt knw exactly how to turn 3g on with this mobile..
theres nothing about turning 3g on and off in how to use booklet too.. so..

Not necessarily. The network is 3G only, but the handset doesn't "know" it. You can still manually set the handset to use 3G only, 2G only or both.

Even the XT Android devices I've seen have been defaulted to "GSM/WCDMA" mode, despite their network not supporting GSM. I'm not saying it's the default setting for the i9000t, just that it's likely to be the case.

The option to change this is under Wireless & Network --> Mobile Network --> Network Mode.

It'll work fine on VF/2Degrees, it'll just spend a good chunk of it's time in GSM mode rather than 3G. If it keeps disconnecting them odds are there's either an issue with that particular phone, your SIM card, or you're in a reception black spot.

Yes, I know it's the default. But from what i've read in the other thread, I'm inclined to believe this is not running the default ROM, but rather someone who sold a second hand, rooted device on Trade Me. I might be also inclined to believe the reason of the sale was that the device was unstable after all the rooting and ROM installs...

The buyer might just have a lemon.

That could be to make roaming easier. Or maybe it's just the manufacturer default :)

It was APNs problem and Ive sorted it out
So 3G is working on my phone now!
But still have a problem with error message :(

I thinks this leads to network disconnection..
This happens tooooo often and when i call somebody it hangs up the call because of this disconnection.. its quite annoying :(
