Hi all,
Recently our cabinet was upgraded, and I went from about 3.5MBps to 6MBps. Very happy with this, but I am wondering why I still appear to be on ADSL1 speeds.

Downstream Rate: 7547 kbps

http://www.telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps shows my cabinet upgrade to ADSL2+ as completed, and the following:

Services available at this address:

ADSL2+

Is there anything else that needs to be done to get access to ADSL2+ speeds? My router is set to Multimode, and has been reset since the upgrade. Setting the DSL Modulation to ADSL2+ connects me successfully, but still at ADSL1 speeds.

Or is it that I am too far away from the new cabinet to get any faster speed?

What are your router sync stats?

It could be that you are too far away to get ADSL2 Speeds

What make/model is the modem/router? Some older chipsets have a bug where they only connect at that 75xx rate on the new ADSL2+ ISAM/DSLAM's

Either that or it's the profile/config for the ADSL port you are connected to.

However, I'll put money on it being the modem/router compatibility issue.

Hi all

You are using a DLink 502T or 604T modem? I am sure you are.
There was a small batch of these that will connect at 7547k on ADSL2+. You just need to call us at 0800 22 55 98 , explain that you require the DLink firmware upgrade. and ask to be put through to the ADSL Helpdesk or CTS, they will take care of that for you.

Yeah there are a few other older makes and models that don't play nice with the new ADSL equipment Telecom wholesale are using too (ikanos line cards I hear).

Router is Linksys WAG200G, running firmware 1.01.06. I see that there is newer firmware available, so will try that.

Your upstream is still pretty crap tho...

With attenuation that low it should be 800-900 type range, not in the 400's

That's because it's a Linksys. There are several posts on GZ saying that Linksys modems struggle with ADSL2+ but naturally I can't find any of those posts now!

I had a similar problem and after trying 3 different routers had to use a Draytek with the Uk firmware on it to get adsl2+ speeds.

After a reboot or two I'm now getting 544 up. Might borrow a new router from a friend and see if anything changes.

I am having a similar issue. Our exchange was upgraded in September. Both the Telecom & telecom wholesale website state ADSL2+ is available at my address.

I could actually throw a rock at the exchange, I am that close.

These are my modem stats: (D-Link DSL-502T)

I have been told the downstream speed is higher than standard ADSL1 due to how close I live to the exchange.

The modulation mode seems to suggest the modem is not receiving an adsl2+ signal.

Setting it to adsl2+ multi mode or to adsl2+ G992.5 makes no difference.

I have spoken with a couple of telecom techs on the adsl helpdesk. Both have said the modem is not the issue. The second tech suggested that the exchange may not have been enabled to a adsl2+ profile?? Does this sound right. My parents live nearby in Gore and most of the exchanges were done around the same time. They have adsl2+ speeds no problem.

Ok the tech has just come back and suggested the information on both the Telecom Wholesale site and the Telecom site may be incorrect and the exchange has not been upgraded?

Seems strange as the Telecom site specifically states it was upgraded in Sep 10.

Odd. We have tools to see the modem, that will tell what profile the port is on , i.e. ADSL1 or ADSL2+. If u pm your line number I can check tomorrow, and if it is DSL1 I can check neighbouring connections. If they are DSL2+, your port profile is incorrect and that can be corrected
