Since 7pm this evening, there has been a nationwide Devoli UFB broadband outage. This will also be impacting customers who use providers hosted on the Devoli UFB network, for example Contact broadband.

Posting in case people unaware are madly trying to reboot their routers!

I was shocked when I looked at geekzone 1hour into the outage, and was the first to post. Clearly not many geekzone users use the Devoli network. Probably a good reminder for me to consider changing to someone more reliable.

Never heard of it. 🤣 But outages can happen even with known brands.

Don’t change ISPs just because they had a rough evening.
Every telecommunications provider has outages. Bar none.

My views are as unique as a unicorn riding a unicycle. They do not reflect the opinions of my employer, my cat, or the sentient coffee machine in the break room.

Herald story on the outage: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/widespread-internet-outages-reported-across-new-zealand/UOLL4P2SAJCLXO73O7YIHWVMR4/

On its website, network service provider Devoli said broadband issues were being caused by a route reflector in Sydney.

Certainly not one outage as my reason for changing providers. Multiple outages with tonight’s being the longest at close to 2 hours. Additionally plex not usable to a Singapore hosted plex media server during evenings. Didn’t have any streaming issues using the same setup with 2Degrees or Spark.

Being a route reflector its a pretty important piece to the puzzle to keep your data flowing!

Sadly it happens and its a piece of hardware that has had a bad day! who knows it may have been up for 5 years 356 days 12 hours and 9 mins, it probably just needed a reboot!

As the status page states, it had a carry on effect that crippled some other devices down the chain, this may have led to your interrupted services on more than one occasion, this could happen to any provider regardless of how resilient their network is.

I have personally been using Devoli for the last 8 years and found them to be Very good and very quick at resolving issues, nothing is ever too much of a problem for them at all! and they are a really good bunch to deal with in person and on the phone!

I've had four outages on Devoli in two years. Two outages were power cuts in the region, one was planned maintenance and then last night. Ignoring the power cuts, that's 1 hour of downtime in 2 years. As far as SLA goes, that's better than 99.99% uptime.

Agreed I'm with devoli directly and in 7 months that was the first outage, and a simple DNS server change got me back online albeit with some longer routes,

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.
