Hello Everyone.

First things first Im a noob to this and im sorry if my terminology is a bit off.

I have a spark Fibre plan here in Dunedin.  I have been using a ISP provided huawei HG630B but its a bit crap and im about to get gigabit turned on! ( I would like to be able to set up VPN server in the future)

Any way I need help with the BASIC setup of this MikroTik Router RB2011iLS-IN.
I need it to plug the MikroTik straight into the ONT and then plug a wireless router into the Mikrotik. (ONT - eth1) then (eth2 to wifi router).  I would like the MikroTik Router to handle the DHCP and the wireless device to just transmit the radio. ( hope you can understand this)

I have done a bit of research and tried a few different things but i cant figure it out. I have already had to reset the Mikrotik router a few times as I disabled the local_bridge and was unable to connected to it via ethernet.

Looking at the settings on my Huawei I think I need to make a Vlan and tag it to 10 but Im just not to sure. Then bridge the connection?

If someone can help me make this work I would be very happy.  If someone can help me through this I will make a simple youtube video so then next noob doing this wont have to ask again.

Thanks in advance.

Zeke

All the best with your adventure with the mikrotik - they are great but a bit of learning is required - Michael has a great guide here

there really is not a lot of difference

use your Mikrotik router to do the vlan tagging and just use the other router as a WIFI access point.

Um, it looks UFB to me, talks you through creating the VLAN etc - what issue are you having exactly?

Thanks for taking the time to help.

Well at the moment I would be happy to even get internet connectiy form the Mikrotik.  Ok So my last attempt I Plugged the Mikrotik into the ethernet 1. and a pc into the ethernet 2 and I can access the mikrotik admin console etc but not internet.

I have left the default settings in the mikrotik.  I have added Vlan tag to 10 on the ethernet 1.  I have added ethernet 2 and vlan to the bridge. (in the port tab)

I think it has something to do with the dhcp.  At this stage im just trying to get the Mikrotik to work without the AP.  sorry about this.

Hello and thank for replying to my post.

I have followed the link you sent me but I still can get it to get internet connitivity.  (The Mikrotik)
Even if I could get the Mikrotik vlan tagging and using ethernet to one of my PC's to get internet connictivy I would be happy (forgetting the AP entirly)
Do you know how to do this?  Sorry for the trouble.

thanks for your help

sbiddle's article is for using a separate wireless router that doesn't support vlan tagging as a router. This is NOT what you want to do. You wish to use the Mikrotik as the router and your wireless device as a simple access point (no routing). So don't follow it.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Yeah I did follow it but at the end I realized this.  Thanks for taking the time to post.
I have reset the configuration and am trying to figure it out.

Ok so thanks again for helping me out with this.  Please see the screen shots below to see my steps.
(I have the Miroktik plugged into the UNT on eth1 and my pc plugged into the mikrotik eth 2.)

1.Created a Vlan on Eth1

2. Screen shot of winbox after I made the vlan

3. Added Vlan to Bridge in 'ports' section.

4. Added PPPoE Client

5.Set the dialer setting I got from existing router.

6.Screen shot of winbox after above steps have been made.

So this is where I am up to.  Still no joy.  Also I have looked at the firewall tab but im not sure what I need to do there.
Again Thanks a lot.

First thing is vlan shouldn't be in the bridge - post your firewall config

And just to tidy up you might want to remove the dhcp client from ether1 (if there's on there)
