Ditto! Who is going to run it now.

I thought with the increased number of golf channel shows sky was bringing that they may be going towards a full stream of the golf channel which would be awesome! But alas not!

it just says that Sky lost the rights to Golf , it doesnt say they were outbid. It could be that no one has the rights yet.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Looks like time to ditch sky then and look for an alternative that will deliver the golf.

And of course they still have the majors, Ryder Cup and various other big tournaments so those who are interested are still going to have to keep Sky and pay out for the new provider. With this starting to happen more and more, people who are interested in several sports are going to end up having to pay out for multiple different services to watch them. Interesting to see which sport is next.

I wonder if the rights holder knowing that next year 3 kiwis will be on the PGA tour was holding out for too much?

If only they streamed it online, I'd ditch sky in a flash. Basically F1 and golf are the two main live sports I watch on sky.

Radio NZ article (http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/business/254031/sky-tv-loses-pga-golf-rights) seems to indicate that PGA Tour at least want to run their own streaming system based on:

Chief executive John Fellett said Sky TV put in its biggest bid yet but the PGA organisers said the issue was not a matter of money, but a decision to try something different.

"They wanted to experiment with offering direct to consumer approach," he said. "We will rotate that money back into other content, to hopefully increase viewership and Sky Sports peer subscribers."

Couple of ways to read it, but key things are: "Sky TV put in its biggest bid yet but the PGA organisers said the issue was not a matter of money" & "experiment with offering direct to consumer approach" so it kind of sounds like Sky put in a higher than normal bid, but the PGA (only one of the 3 sets of lost rights) either went for a lower bid that was more open to people, or based on the 2nd comment, are going to run their own system.

Either way, there are going to be a few unhappy people because, both the FedEx Cup (one of the biggest PGA Tour events) and a European LPGA event are on this weekend, but not included on the Sky Sports list of events that will air before Christmas, (seems the Euro LPGA must be covered by the Euro PGA rights).

So basically, it seems that for PGA there is going to be a replacement 'sometime' and for Euro/Asia golf 'who knows' is the best description.

Also... I love how the 1.1% is quoted as "viewer hours across all of the pay TV's channels" so the percentage of Sky Sports package viewer hours would surely be higher. (Food for thought)

why, golf is made for full HD on a big screen and going by the trouble people are having with the EPL stream, i dont hold out much hope.

This direct to consumer model for sports appears to be growing. I think this is a good thing as long as each sport/league don't make their sport so expensive that the consumer can only afford one sport.
