ive noticed some people asking questions about the new software update coming out for the mysky hdi and plus (silver mysky1 will be made redundant soon making room for mysky 3) so thought id share what i know so far. There are alot of new features coming mainly to do with internet and online streaming from the new library sky is compiling. the Ethernet port will be livened up and for those people with routers to far away for the max 5m Ethernet cable sky supply, sky is releasing wireless dongles and also Ethernet power plugs (to send data through power cables in the house back to the router). apart from the ip side of things all i know so far is there will be a new look to the menus and what not, 3 digit channel changing will be gone so you'll just enter the number you want and that's it. There will also be some new fault diagnostics for technicians. you'll be able to see hard drive running temp and rpm. if anyone wants to share any more info they have please do and as soon as i find out more ill update.

We had a Sky tech install My Sky + just yesterday, and he mentioned this, saying he thought about a six month time frame.  He didn't know about the WiFi dongle, and I mentioned it seemed daft not to include WiFi in the boxes.

FYI omen, the Sky tech was a real diamond, and I was super impressed with him.  Nice one Sky.

WiFi in boxes or even WiFi dongles are just a recipe for disaster.

It doesn't stream the programs, it downloads to the planner like a recording. Source SkyWatch December.

Since data doesn't have to be in real time, I don't see a problem with wifi. If it loses signal temporay, just carry on getting data when signal back.

People just need to be aware wifi signal can get jammed (microwaves ovens etc), and not as fast, but as long as aware I find it more conveintant when router in different room to TV.

I've streamed youtube HD to my tv and only time I have a problem is when microwave is turned on as it's between router and TV, other then that it works flawlessy.

Wifi might not be the 'best thing ever' but loads of Netflix users maybe even *most* Netflix users, including me) stream Netflix over wifi to devices like laptops, smart TVs, play stations, apple TVs, iPads etc, with very few issues, so I don't know why you insist on being such a negative nancy about streaming via wifi.

Really? So the only content willbe stuff sky has forced down to me? Makes me wonder if sky actually understand what 'on demand' actually means.

No. You pick what you want downloaded. It then downloads to planner. Guess once enough is downloaded can probably start watching straight away, or can watch it whenever want to later on.

It's not clear to me if the older MySky/HDi box will work with the new Sky on Demand next year. This box has an ethernet port. SkyTV have only stated that the MySky+/HDi box will work. Any information about this?

David.

The two boxes, i.e., mySky HDi, mySky+, are identical apart from hard drive.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

If you're talking about the silver mysky (1st gen) they are being replaced by the mysky 3 as are all digital boxes

Mine's black, and has MySky/HDi on the front. I think it has a 160 GB drive.

I would also like to know where you are getting this info, as some of this info may only be known by sky staff and which should not really be released yet.
