Despite blue sky and clear weather our My Sky won't work due to atmospheric conditions.

Rang Sky. Would you believe they have not yet discovered shift work or Customer service 101 and are actually closed?

How selfish of them that they let their staff spend time with their families today

I agree. They are a major tv service provider and this is one of the biggest tv watching periods of the year.

Shift work would be the norm. For example Vodafone are at work and providing Customer support right now.

FWIW around now to mid Jan is actually the quietest period of the entire year for TV viewing. It's why all primetime shows are pulled and replaced with reruns.

Comparing a tv company (sattelite) to a phone/cable company is like comparing apples and oranges

as John said have you bothered to do any basic trouble shooting?

the atmospheric condition message means its not getting signal be it by actual atmospheric conditions or otherwise, so are all the cables connected properly, has the dish been knocked or is out of alignment? you should be able to check the signal levels still.

Maybe Vodafone are providing that support out of another country where Christmas is not celebrated, or where workers have lesser rights than in NZ.

I didn't turn the TV on all day, fired up the Weber and had a great BBQ with family instead :)

Tomorrow the TV might get used..

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Perhaps it's the new coal for those that have been naughty this year.

No. Their website says they are staffed 8am - 9pm on public holidays (closing an hour earlier than normal).

What was the temperature like when it failed. As they get older some LNB start crapping out around late afternoon. When that happened to ours I was able to revive it by tipping cold water on it. The location on a wall below a window helped.

that happened to me. They got me to lower the Frequency in the hidden menu.

When people replied in forums said that only temporarily solution and will fail completely.

It was near end of last Summer and held out so far, waiting for hot day this summer to see what happens.

If they can't trouble shoot on phone, a technician not going to come out on public holiday anyway.

That was clearly sarcasm.  Put bluntly:

TV not working: no big deal, get over it.
Phone not working: can't dial 111 when grandma has a heart attack.

That's why Vodafone works Christmas day and Sky doesn't.

I don't know why, but this post by you REALLY rubbed me the wrong way.  Perhaps it was the arrogant sense of entitlement conveyed in your disgust at Sky, a mere TV provider (and one I don't even like!), allowing their employees to stay home on Christmas of all days..

We have been having the same kind of thing. At about 6pm we often can't get TV1, 2, or 3. Other channels usually work OK. About 7pm it comes right again. My guess is that it is something to do with the position of the sun relative to the satellite.

This all started happening in the last few weeks.

This is almost certainly the LNB on the dish dying. They commonly get temperature dependent with age, and stop working correctly when too hot or cold, or moisture inside them condenses on the cap.
