Neon at $20 per month won't even be in HD (coming mid year apparently). Still no android app. And lots of delays. A half hearted launch? Did Sky only come up Neon because it had to compete with Lightbox,Netfix etc?

Yep, I think so. Much like Igloo, Sky is doing the bare minimum to stave off new services and competition. You get the feeling they just want all this new fangled internet stuff to go away so they can get back to charging too much for a crap and expensive satellite service. Even there, with all that profit, they have put nothing into moving to DVB-S2 and H264 which would give better bandwidth use and picture for their viewers. But that would take rolling out new decoders instead of using the current ones which are so old now.

based on Sky's track record . . . when they eventually get around to providing streaming HD they will probably want to charge extra for an HD ticket.

Yes sky, you are really taking it to the market, come on, really who cares anyway? So easy to access Netflix in all regions anyway, done so for years. Its a shame a new Zealand company like lightbox, can't get it together either, got potential but not even close to Netflix yet.

Hey, they cant even get most of their old TV service in HD, why would they go giving the good stuff to second rate internet services.

And SD is 0.3MP vs 2MP - waaaaay under half-baked - thats like 1/6th baked. How about the sound? Are we at least getting 5.1 on neon or will it just be overcompressed artifacty stereo?

But I'm not.

I wouldn't have signed up anyway at $20/month. But not having HD at launch is a joke.

Like their 'Season Pass' for S15 and NRL (at $299 each), Sky don't actually want you as customers for their online offerings, they just 'have' to do it to keep online rights (IMO).

Yep +1 to all the above, im about to hit my 1 year anniversary on my netflix account, i dont think you will ever pry that subscription out of my hands. $12 well spent, that mixed with my spotify subscription and im all set for $25 a month.

I havn't had freeview or skytv in 18 months and I don't plan on changing that. ever.

This really is just a money grab, they are trying to get something to market before Netflix gets here in march, wait until there advertising comes, it will be a landslide victory im sure.

What I wish is that sky was a product I wanted rather than an evil I was forced to tolerate because I want to watch sports live. So many companies are innovating and trying harder all the time, and yet Sky just does the absolute minimum.

I think you will find they are going to be replacing all the old sky boxes for dvb-s2 devices this year and next.
