Hi guys Im new here, but have spent time reading the posts over the years.

What Im trying to do is get people to sign a change.org petition for Lightbox to bring back their linux browser/pipelight support. It used to work flawlessly but no wont work even with a user agent switcher.

I still have ten months subscription that I can't use.

So if you feel like me, head over to change.org and support the petition.

All the best.

a 10 month free subscription?

also is it to do with silverlight support?

i really dont think that a petition will help, there are probably a lot more platforms that are a higher priority

Hi there, it is a silverlight thing, linux has a sucessful port called pipelight that works ith Netflix, hulu etc, but light box actually removed the support. Im just asking they bring it back.
You're probably correct, they will have bigger priorities.

I suspect you'll find that Chrome will get native support from Lightbox soon enough without the need for Silverlight.

NPAPI plugins are now disabled by default in Chrome, and won't work at all come September. Lightbox won't be able to afford to ignore the Chrome user base.

It is a bit annoying that there is no linux support. But I would prefer they concentrate on Chromecast and Android support first.

Hi. Netflix now works on Ubuntu with Google Chrome (not Firefox, Chromium etc) without having to use pipelight etc. (http://lifehacker.com/you-can-now-watch-netflix-on-linux-with-ubuntu-and-chro-1644972250 & http://www.pcworld.com/article/2824623/ubuntu-linux-gets-netflix-without-weird-workarounds.html)

So I'm wondering if Lightbox could be the same? Have you tried using Google Chrome on Ubuntu to watch Lightbox?

Cheers

Yup, correct I can watch netflix. but. and the crux of the problem is that using either chrome or Firefox, to get to the video content, it has to be windows or mac in the user agent string, that in turn means the video will use the silverlight plugin.

However ubuntu has pipelight. this means that you can play silverlight videos, but it wont activate without having a user agent string of linux. The problem is the user agent string. i had it working near perfect albeit a little jumpy before they added the user agent string restriction.

help@lightbox.co.nz: Bring back support of their Light box to enable Linux users under pipe light to be able to watch online streaming. One of the only reasons I subscribed.

Hi folks, got Netflix working using Google Chrome natively on linux. Worth the $12.99 for favourites such as stargate atlantis..... Nice quality and just as good a selection as lightbox.

So what happens if you change the user agent string to windows or mac?

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-Us/firefox/addon/user-agent-switcher/

I'm sure there are similar methods for chrome.
