I noticed an update for the lightbox android app on our Samsung tab 4, one of the changes was adding support for phones. So I had a look in the play store on my Asus Zenfone and sure enough it was there to install. Seems to work ok, watched an episode of Seinfeld, the aspect ratio was correct, which is more than can be said for the Samsung tab. The gui seemed to be locked to portrait mode but video plays in landscape as it should.

Appears to work on a Galaxy S4 which is the only Samsung device I have.

Not at home so can't check the if the option to cast is there.... :-p

Might try to load it on another Android device tonight.

Yes, yes, yes. Posted on that thread a number of times. Hence the :-p

A fellow S4 user is not having a happy time with this version, though. After about 20 seconds it hangs and starts sending out morse code rather loudly.

We did indeed launch on Android phones, iPhones and the remaining Android tablets last night.

Due to the way opening up the app to multiple device brands works, some people managed to install the old version of the app on unsupported devices. Please do make sure you're using the newest version of the app available.

Chromecast support will be added with the next update for iOS and Android, coming later this month.

Anyone know if the Android app will allow me to use the HDMI output on my tablet to watch on my TV? Or should I just wait until Chromecast support before re-subscribing?

I won't be watching directly on my smartphone iphone (and suspect most people won't either) but I guess this is handy for Airplay and Chromecast (when that launches soon), for those people who want to use that.

But I'll stick to my PS4 :)

Is this updated App crashing? The previous one crashed constantly on my Galaxy and reading some off the Play Store reviews it did on many devices. One of the reasons I dropped Lightbox.

Unfortunately for me it's installing fine but refuses to play any video on both my Nexus 7 2013 (stock) and Galaxy S4 (rooted, custom rom), both running Android 5.1.

"Error. Cannot play video"

I got all excited but at the moment it's a bit of a let down. I'm hoping a future update will improve things. I use my pc to work and study, not watch videos.

Thanks for the feedback, it's noted.

The 2013 Nexus 7 has fairly well documented issues on video playback, but we'll see if there's anything we can do:

Rooted devices aren't supported as content providers won't allow it.

Clarification on rooted devices: does this mean that Lightbox won't run on them?

Does not run on my Asus TF700T.  "Lightbox has stopped" right after login.

I would not call that link "well documented" it refers to a couple of people.

Never had any playback problem on my nexus 7 with other video playback, but i cant comment on the new lightbox app as the code i got emailed for a free month says it is not valid.

got a link to blame that on as well?
