Just wondering what everyone is hopes to see in the new sky software?

What do they expect from the new boxes?

A UI, that is much more modern.. easy simple.. anything like openvix UI

No big Sky logo taking up half of screen.. i.e. using real estate better..

Responsive to button presses

Whole home capabilities is a must, restart a show from the beginning and pause/start on any device.

I aim to misbehave.

How about a remote that you can easily get the back off to change the batteries.

Will those who get Sky via Vodafone be getting the new boxes too or just the Sky direct customers?

They are DVB-S/S2 (sat) boxes.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

From the other thread running they are only updating non mysky boxes so anyone with a black mysky won't get one but they will get the new software.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

I have a MySky and some other old-style digital decoder (silver). But I pay my Sky-sub via Vodafone. Just wondered whether that would have any affect on when or if the silver box will get replaced.

Yes the silver Pace would be replaced.

So I'm sitting in the lounge of my parental units and I realise they have got two tv's connnected to their old sky decoder.
This would be an unsupported setup with the new decoders I imagine.

I presume an HDMI splitter would be required. Are there any gotchas with such things?
Both TV's are within 5m of the decoder.

A built-in DLNA server would be nice, and might be enough to both keep me as a customer (which is doubtful at the moment), and persuade me to upgrade from the standard box to a MySky. In  fact, it's verging on essential to keep me.

My Panny recorder has this, which is why I have resisted the MySky to date. Indispensable in the modern networked age to be able to view the files on a main recorder elsewhere over the network. But the blasted MySky Macrovisions its SD analog output (the normal decoders don't) so I can't even upgrade to one and keep using the Panny.

Also nice, but of lesser importance, would be:
- a decent sized hard drive. 2TB+ in the era of HD video should be the minimum for a new unit.
- ability to use all the tuners and drive space, rather than letting a pay-per-view service I would never use hog them.
- a 60-sec skip button, which is much preferable to having to forward through ads
- twin HDMI outputs, for feeding a telly in another room without having to use a splitter
- picture-in-picture, for watching one channel while keeping an eye on (say) a sports match or breaking news.
- fully integrated Freeview Plus as well as Sky on demand.

And they shouldn't charge a ridiculous monthly fee for the decoder.

Edit: Grammar. D'oh.

we also have this situation, wondering what will happen, maybe there will be an adapter like the mysky?

There is a lot of first world problems there, you have to remember the wish list and what sky are able to put out is limited by the agreements with content providers. your DLNA server I would bet won't happen at launch, and if it does it will be between the SAME types of decoders, and probably not between myskyHDi and mysky+ mainly due to hardware incompatibility I would bet.

I would LOVE to see the ability to put your own hdd in to increase the space, but I could not see this happening either.

Current mysky has 4 tuners and all 4 are used at random times. Tuner 4 is used all the time, next time you see one look at the signal area and you will see what they are up to if you know what to look for.

the PIP is a great idea, Completely agree, I can't see twin HDMI outputs on anything except amps so I would not expect to see that.

Since Freeview plus is not a sky product, I would not expect that to happen at launch at any rate.

I know in another post someone mentioned about H265 and the immediate ability to add 20 HD channels (if anyone finds that post can they link it please), you can't just add 20HD channels without bandwidth considerations on the bird (s)

I look forward to the new boxes when they arrive, my tech co has them sitting in the lockup waiting to go out.
