Apologies if this is already covered (have done my best to search/read all the threads).  I occasionally back-up any good My-Sky Recordings (all Free to Air - normally TV 1/3 News story's) via a USB Recording Device.  I always used the Component Input/My-Sky Output for TV 1/3 as it was much better quality.

It's my first time trying to backup a few recordings since the My-Sky On Demand upgrade and the Component input no longer seems to work (no matter which TV Picture Output setting I use).  I have tested almost everything except the actual cable (was working not long ago and still in the same place).  But before I do so I was wanting to check if anyone was aware of any software changes which prevented the Component Output being used in any way???

From what I understand, Sky's new boxes getting dropped in to replace the old standard digital ones,  don't support component,so it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine they removed it at a software level in the update on the older My Sky's? I guess they assumed there wasn't really much of a use case for it due to the majority of My Sky customers either having an HD set new enough for HDMI or a really old low res plasma / early LCD or a standard definition CRT. Its getting harder to even find component in - many sets offer one composite or component shared input but not both now in my experience. They probably don't want anyone making good quality copies of the recordings on the box either.

Still I imagine the new interface will look pretty terrible on those old sets especially now that it will be limited to composite. - The standard definition CRT my parents used up until late 2014 genuinely saw an improvement in picture quality going from composite to component with a standard definition box as well, so if they still had that set it would be a blow to their quality. They're still using the same box on their new LCD but of course that has HDMI so it won't be an issue thankfully.

Perhaps it is time to move to an HDMI capture solution instead?

I thought I had the same problem after the upgrade however I discovered that the SCART outlet still outputs component.

Ah I have heard of this, the boxes drop the setting.

Try going into setup
Picture
In there is the option for it, set it wrong, preview and save then go back in set it correctly and preview and save then it should work. Assuming it's a mysky and not a skybox

The picture output settings in the updated software will not save unless you preview it first (yellow button) before saving (green button)

Yeah been thinking about it.  Can't really find a good solution - all seem to be for game capture.

Any suggestions Rich?

Yep already done all that.

Bugger I don't think I've got a SCART cable anymore.

Game capture is no different to anything else capture. Just need a HDMI splitter to deal with the HDCP problem and you are good to go.

I have a Hauppauge HD PVR (which does capture up to 1080i HD over component), and which I could use a HD Fury to connect to an HDMI source if I needed. It works well. I recently acquired a Hauppauge HD PVR2, which seems to review quite well, has an HDMI input, and will capture up to 1080p (25/30FPS). I haven't tested it yet, as the HDCP stripper to accompany it was ordered later and hasn't arrived yet. I also need to replace the US power adapter.

Just make sure you get the right model. The game capture models are basically identical *except* they won't capture 5.1 audio.

Hauppauge has just released the newer HD PVR 60, which I understand will go to 50/60 FPS at 1080P, and that's probably what I would get if I was ordering now. The Elgato units also seem to be popular and (I recall) may be capable of higher bitrates.

I had he same issue have mysky + and use three output. Component, video and hdmi. Component stopped after upgrade and my picture settings were set to option 2. All the avavailble options imply that it won't work, set it to option 1 and all three outputs work :)

I have a sky SCART to component cable you're welcome to have if you want it?
I'm in the process of moving so if you don't want it it's going in the bin.
