I have the old Sky decoder (not MySky) and will presumably be upgraded to the New Sky Plus box sometime this year. Assuming I stick with Sky - which is a very big IF at this point.

I can connect the new box to the living room TV using HDMI if I get one, no problem there. However, my video distribution system for the rest of the house relies on the composite outputs from the decoder.

Mostly I record to a DVD recorder, which has DLNA sharing and lets recorded content be viewed in the bedroom, spare room, or on my tablet over WiFi. I also have a streaming box that streams the live feed from the decoder over the network - aging to the bedroom, spare room or tablet. The tablet option is particularly useful for getting the news in the kitchen while cooking etc.

Analog outputs on the current decoder don't have copy protection (Macrovision). I have heard a bunch of things about the MySky applying copy protection to the analog outputs for premium channels (Movies, SoHo etc). But I don't know whether the new Sky Plus box also does this. If it doesn't protect analog output, then I may upgrade. If it does, it will not be compatible with my video distribution

I am hoping that someone with the New Sky+ box, the movies and/or SoHo packages, and a DVD recorder or VCR could try recording some content off these channels, and let us all know whether they are recordable.

I think this is something that others here, as well as me, may also have an interest in.

NB: I know there is hardware I can use to strip the protection and/or stream off the HDMI output. In fact, I already own most of the needed kit. But it's more cables, switches and power adapters cluttering the entertainment unit and requiring power sockets, and it's probably too much hassle. Plus, the GF struggles with the number of remotes already without adding matrix splitters and wireless keyboards into the mix.
