Does anyone know the cost of keeping your SkyHD box and getting Freeview channels only in HD. Note we currently pay a monthly charge for our Skybox + the sky channels + the HD ticket. Thinking of cancelling sky however still want the Freeview channels We do not have UHF Freeview reception.

yep, I just assumed he can't get that as why ask? My stepdad cant get anything, but SkyFTA is $18 per month.

Yep, plus the rental for the MySky unit of course. It basically enables you to keep your MySky unit to use as a Freeview receiver, if that's what you want.

thanks all. I checked with Sky. It is $33 per month. $18 for Freeview and $15 for the MySky box.

$15 mysky but if you have a skybox (new one)u can call and have that off. If u have mysky it CURRENTLY has to be on (pvr) but might be able to turn off at a later date

I have to pay $18.70 from a Westland address.

This is after many years as a basic customer and having up front paid for the My Sky + and upgrades.

In my location we have given Sky exceptional support because of the poor coverage of the old analogue and now no digital terrestrial. So I imagine that I am being gouged as much as their archaic business models say is prudent.

However that said: Sky can give 720p resolution for the channels that compete with free to air current UHF high definition. My Sky + was the best box with 4 tuners and has a super user interface and guide. A little spoiled now by Sky's need to promote itself and accommodate their internet offering at last updating.

It is a pity that the value of the extra regional advertising channels in Free View is worth more than how much we would appreciate the bandwidth to upgrade to 720p or better.

Australians do well with their equivalent but they are a much bigger market and very much more likely to need these services for geographical reasons.

Freeview users on satellite already lost the regional feed of Prime, I believe TV3 regional feeds will also be removed soon.

Bravo + HGTV will be added soon and there are rumours of another channel.

I would like to see a Free to Air clone of Jones! channel and I don't mean repeats of ex Heartland channel stuff.

For now the the boxes will fast forward adds in recordings.

In spite of how clever their boxes might be you are not going to get any better video than the want you to have mostly because other customers are paying to get it.

Much the same as the disgustingness of some "Neon" I have seen.

Until recently I was watching Freeview satellite through a set top box connected to the TV via a composite cable(red white and yellow plugs).

I changed to an HDMI cable connection and observed an improvement in picture quality. It may be useful if you dont have an HDMI connection to ask the neighbours if they have Freeview satellite through HDMI and have a gander to see what you think.

Geting a Freeview satellite box with more than 2 tuners will be a challenge though

If you have paid upfront for the MySky (as I have), it is $18.70/month with two alternating free basic channels every month. This is obviously to entice you to the basic package, but I would prefer to have the two extra channels permanently (of my choosing of course!). Are you listening Mr Sky?

Sorry you can't choose. I made the mistake of asking someone at sky about it (who I know out side of work) and got a REALLY long and detailed reply. I missed most of it (due alcohol) and it boiled down to the fact the PROVIDERS not sky partly dictate this.
