It looks like Lightbox will soon be losing a number of its pre-school shows. "Blue's Clues", "Bubble Guppies", "Dora the Explorer" and "The Wonder Pets" are all marked "will be removed from Lightbox soon".

Does anyone know when/why these shows are being removed? Is this content available elsewhere?

Hello @Bakery2k

Shows come and go depending on how long Lightbox have bought the licenses/rights for them.

The shows in the 'Disappearing soon' section are examples.

Hope that helps!

Thanks George. It's unfortunate that there is no way for users to tell when shows might be removed.

Less relevant for pre-school programmes perhaps, but I'm not sure I want to start watching a new series if it could disappear from the service at any time.

Does lightbox have a policy of maintaining a selection of content in their accessible library suitable as entertainment for viewers aged 0-5?

There is a 'Disappearing Soon' carousel - it's actually just changed to 'Last Chance to Watch' - that should contain a list of the stuff that's on it's way out soon. We do also message customers (via email) when popular shows are going soon. We base this on unique viewer numbers. That said, it doesn't usually have kids shows in there.

Currently the best way of seeing when a kids show is going soon is to visit the show page itself: it will usually have a message at the top saying so.

HTH!

Hey Dairyxox

The 'Pre-school' section should be the section that holds all the good stuff for 0 - 5yr olds :)

Is that what you meant?

Perhaps I wasn't clear: I saw the above message on the show pages for each of the programmes listed in the OP. Unfortunately, the message just says "will be removed from Lightbox soon".

Are you able to give users any more information about exactly how long shows will remain on the service? At the moment there is no way to know: "soon" could mean tomorrow, or it could mean six months time.

Gutted about Dora. My kids love Dora. It's not available on Netflix and with Sky becoming less and less value for money, my kids soon won't be able to watch it at all.

It looks like Dora the Explorer is available on Netflix in the UK, but not here. It is also available for purchase through a UK iTunes account.

Thanks. I might have to look into one of those options.

Ah I see, sorry.

There are a few different considerations when we remove content: we are often not given a final date by license holders/rights holders - but we think it's better to give you guys *some* indication that content is going soon, rather than no indication at all. We will always update a program page when we get a date, though.

As it happens, in the case of Dora, I believe we've just been given dates - so it should now be updated with an actual date on the program page.

Hope that helps!

Wow - I never considered the possibility that you might not know a final date. It does seem strange that you would be asked to remove shows but not be told when - but that's clearly outside your control.

By updating the page with "removed soon", then again with a date once one is known, it looks like you are doing all you can. Thank you for that.

Thanks also to you, George, for your prompt answers to my questions here.
