I need to replace my sat LNB, mine appears to be filling with water and affecting picture during rain showers. Can anyone recommend a decent replacement? I only recognise the Sharp brand but hear they fail after half a dozen to a dozen years so figure there must be a better (and probably cheaper) option.

As you're posting in the SKY forum I assume you have an active SKY account? If so just call up SKY to come and replace it. Cheapest there is.... FREE!

Yes I'm a subscriber but I use my own equipment. I started using my own set top boxes and multiroom plus streaming to portable devices about 15 years ago when everyone I bought my first 720p TV and Sky insisted of giving out piece of sh1t hardware from the eighties. I dont understand why anyone would use sky issued equipment; it's sub standard

Even so, Sky will replace your LNB if you have a subscription.

You may need to plug in your Sky box to make them happy, but that is a lot cheaper than buying and replacing your own LNB (and it may even be against Skys Ts & Cs to replace your own LNB).

The Triax ones are perfectly fine. I get them at my local Radcliffe Electrical

LNB wise they should all be pretty good.  Watch you get one with the same settings as the last to keep things easy.

If you want a stronger signal, you're typically going to require a larger dish.

Last job I did I used a 110cm dish... basically point it in the general direction of the sky and off you go.

In all seriousness they are almost impossible to align with a simple budgie squealer, you need a decent aligner but rain fade is a thing of the past...

Pre serious internet streaming options, I used to grab the Warriors NRL games from Australia and the F1 races from Indonesia with this bad boy in the back yard.

Complete with custom pallet and concrete block mount...

We moved houses from a massive back yard to a small one, and it kinda got ridiculous at that stage.
Kids enjoyed the jungle gym whilst younger though.

Would they do that even though the sat dish wasn't theirs?

I doubt it, that's why I'll do it myself...

Thanks for the Triax recommendatory matthew.

I should probably have mentioned earlier that I installed my own decent size dish +LNB combo (only $85) when I moved a couple of years ago. I dont expect Sky would change my one but they're cheap as anyway. I foolishly rotated my LNB 180 degrees (at the recommendation of my LNB seller) to try fixing a polarity issue which is probably my matchmaster amplifier doing something strange. Not that it's really an issue, channels just scan on the H instead of the V (or vice versa, I cant quite remember). Now the rubber boot has perished on the LNB I realised with those recent downpours, and water got in to affect the picture, because the sat cable faces upwards at 2 o'clock instead of downwards at 8 o'clock. I used the amp to split the signal 4 ways, to 2 x K1 S2 android STBS (love these things) and a dual tuner S2 card in a PC which then streams phones/tablets/PCs using  MediaPortal +MDAPI+. So much better than sky issued equipment; lets me consume TV the way i want to consume it.

If h&v polarities are swapped then it's rotated 90 degrees , not 180

I agree, 1000 times better using MediaPortal with Sky than their own boxes.  I would be lost without skip steps watching cricket.  I always skip 30 seconds forward between overs.  Using fast forward is way too much work.  Same for skipping a commercial break in 1 or 2 seconds, not 10 or more seconds and then going too far.

@RunningMan. I've tried turning my LNB 90 degrees both clockwise and anti clockwise, as well as a number of other positions close to 10 o'clock and 4 o'clock but cannot scan any channels at all . Do you have any other suggestions what could be causing my channels to scan on the v instead of h??
