It's most likely a decoder fault. Long ago, there was a fault with decoders that were predominately on no-Sky channels (TVNZ or Canwest) not loading the EPG listings, though it was more the MySkys from memory. If the decoder is always going to the preview channel, or weather it's a decoder fault. If it's just randomly changing channels it may be something else, but could still be a Sky fault. You shouldn't get charged for Sky to come out and swap the decoder unless you get an a** of a tech.

Thanks for bringing that point up Legion.

My partner's sister was having the exact same problem you're describing (channel randomly changing to Preview when a program is booked and the channel switches) at the beginning of last month. She called Sky and the CSR told them it's a common software fault and someone would call them within 72 hours to discuss the issue.

She then got a call back within a couple of days, only to be told "sorry it's not a software fault because we updated our STBs last July with a brand new version, which yours is currently up to date so we're not able to advise any further". Basically she's  out of luck. After grumbing a bit and speaking to a manager, she was able to scrape a credit and a tech came to change her box.

So far so good until 2 weeks ago, when the STB randomly now changes to the Weather Channel (not all the time though). Even funnier, the channel will sometimes switch to the correct one first, then after less than a minute, will go to the Weather one Undecided. Off to call Sky again to be told "oh it's a common software problem. I'll take your name down for a rep to contact you within 72 hrs" lol

My partner and I are going to hers for dinner tonight (which actually reminded me of her issue and made me read your post), I'm curious to see what ended up happening in her case.

Yeah, I thought it was supposed to have been fixed by the software upgrade, but wasn't sure. I doubt I can find the latest software upgrade sheet now that I've moved from Christchurch to Palmy. From memory it was only with certain decoder models, so perhaps ask them to change it to a different type of decoder if possible. It was mostly happening on booked programs, usually when people were out and wanted to record something of course, though some just did it randomly while watching a program.

You can check the software version in the menu somewhere, diagnostics or some such (I thought about it too hard, and can't remember where it's at now! Don't you hate when that happens), the latest one should be 360 or A360 depending on the decoder model you have.

I'm pretty sure that is part of the software fault. I don't claim to understand why it happens, but it does. I had a Pace DSR2000 decoder for a long while that did it. Usually the Guide info loaded again after a short while after changing channels.

The HDi's are a very nice little unit (and I'm not saying this as a Sky tech, since I'm now independant; plus we never got a quick back anyhoo). We had one of the original MySkys for a few months last year, and even without the third tuner and HD it was great. We ended up never watching things simply because there was nothing else on, there was always a planner full of shows that we actually liked, but never previously watched because they were on at annoying times, and remembering to record them manually was a pain. Neither of us are into Sports, and we don't often have the time or patience to sit and watch a whole movie, so we wouldn't really benefit from HD on Sky even if we had managed to score one of the HDi's.

Cheers Legion, looks like the sister in law has the same problem Duffuss has (with the "listings unavailable" in the programme list too). I've taken down the software version down but the paper is at home so I'll post it once I get back. She's got the grey slim-ish set top box if that's of any help.

For what it's worth, I did ask her if she had an update. Sky haven't rung her back despite the 72 hour callback thing so I am guessing the software loaded must be the up to date and there's nothing more they can do.

Thanks again,

Jen Laughing

The software version on the Sky box is A360, so it is the latest one. I guess she will have to hang around until they get a new release lol
