Called up Sky last night to get this on the $15 a month plan, $49 installation. Sadly was told that it can't be installed until the 21st of Feb! Undecided Crickey.

This isn't a complaint at all - actually the Sky guy I talked to about it was excellant in fact, a nice guy etc. He put me on a 'wait list' in case there were any last minute cancellations.

Probably works out well anyway as not getting a HD TV until early March.

when i rang up to get Sky Hd installed i was told it would be 6 weeks, so i thought ,like you, it was popular and they were flat out so i said fine and then after a couple of weeks i thought they cant be that busy so i emailed sky and said does it usually take six weeks to get it installed and my friends wouldnt join if it took that long to get it, the next day a lady rang me apologised and  said it would be installed in 4 days and told me it shouldnt take that long , they are busy but it should not take more than 2 weeks to install it. so i would enquire if you want it earlier, because the first person i spoke to said that 6 weeks was as early as he could fit me in.(this was september last year)

I'll be getting a bonus early March, so will use it to get a HD telly ... so not overly fussed about the delay.

Might have been a bit ticked off if the bloke wasn't so nice about it, shows that a bit of customer service goes a long way.

Patience is best learnt well while waiting anyway.

Perhaps it's not that they are so busy but more a problem sourcing the Set-top-boxes?

I called on 6th Jan, to book an installation, The earliest I could get was 28th Jan.

I have since called back to see if it was possible to be installed any sooner, but no luck.

When I called up to get mine installed it took three days and it was done. Move to CHCH, I'm yet to hear of a long install here. and Plod, how come you want to give up MySkyHDI? I can't live without it now.

I'll second that. I find tv without live pause, epg, series link etc to be horrible now.

When they come and install MySkyHDi do they set it up with an HDMI cable and make sure HD is actually working?

The reason I ask is because I did a cabling job for someone who was renovating their house.
We got it all set up with the AV Receiver, upscaling DVD player etc in a cupboard with a 10m HDMI cable to the Sony 40" LCD TV.
The Opo upscaling DVD is great!
They then got MySkyHDi installed but they tech said that to use the HDMI cable they would need another cable to the TV for the audio!!??
So what do they do, they set it up with a crappy composite AV cable!  They also had the HDMI cable connected to the AV Receiver but this wasn't doing anything.

To fix it I went into the MySkyHDi setup menu and changed it to HDMI.  Done.
The picture went from horrible to awesome.
Good work Sky, sell someone an HD device, charge them for HD content and then set it up with the crappiest SD setup. Laughing

I believe Sky only supply short HDMI cables, so if you need a longer run then you will need to buy your own longer cable. In a 'normal' setup with the sky box close to the TV there shouldn't be a problem.

Im in Rotorua, and the guy who installed my skyHD was also the guy who installed my digital sky years earlier, but before he left he made sure everything was working, showed me how the remote worked ,showed me how all the features eg live pause recording etc worked and said if any problems call. the hdmi cable is about a metre long, long enough if tv and sky box are in the same cabinet.

What sort of heat do they pump out?

Currently my normal digital box has my PS3 sitting on it (for aesthetic reasons only mind you).

Pardon my obvious ignorance, but will this be bad for my PS3 or the MySky HDi? I know on the site it says it needs to be in a well ventilated area, which mine is, but it does have a PS3 on top of it?!

I'd like to keep it as it is if possible. Am assuming that the MySky HDi box and the digital box are about the same size of course.

Had our PS3 sitting on our MySky 1 for two years no problem and now the PS3 has been sitting on MySky HDi since August and no problems at all with either, they get warm as I am sure they all do, but no problems here.

The AV Receiver is connected to the TV with the 10m HDMI cable.
The Sky box is also in the cupboard on top of the AV Receiver, which they had the HDMI cable connected to but just had not set up the Sky box correctly to use it.
Perhaps they didn't know how to!!?? So just got it going with composite AV...

Yes, sorry, I misread your post (although what I said was true, it was irrelevant).

From what I can tell freeviewHD is a better picture, I mostly watch 1,2,3 .My wife and kids that watch sky movies don't care if its HD or not. I would rather save myself $25 a month. Even considering ditching sky all together.
