Looking at www.apsattv.com, BBC world right now should be in 16x9
appears sky are still doing 4x3 but I notice black bars on the image?

Sky (from memory) said they would be moving to 16:9 on the 19th Jan.

For the past week or so BBC World has actually been in 16:9 but has then been letterboxed by Sky before being transmitted as 4:3 which means it's postage stamp sized in the middle of the screen.

It's wide screen today.

Some programs are 4:3 like "Asia Business Report"

Looks a lot better, then it use to.

Yes, as I noted in the widescreen thread this was due on the 19th but didn't occur until today. I also note that TV1 rebroadcast of BBC World (that shows through the wee hours) also went widescreen today (coincidence?). Better late than neverSmile.

TV1 BBC World overnight has been 16x9 since TV1 went 16x9 themselves I believe.  I saw it about 6 months ago and it was full 16x9 and not postage stamp, and that's when I noticed Sky was only 4x3.  Good they are slowing changed their source arrangements.

Incorrect. TV1 was 14:9 zoomed 4:3 in 16:9 frame. Both Sky and TVNZ sourced from the identical 4:3 feed, now 16:9.

Now that BBC is 16:9, I see that the BBC themselves practice this 14:9 zooming of 4:3 material, mainly US sourced material now of course. Yuck. I simply won't watch it.

Sorry, I don't know what you've been watching pjamieson but TV1 always had that nasty zoomed BBC picture that chopped of the top and bottom of the picture.

It was a while ago (and I'm not often up at that hour to see it), but I went back and forwards between the 2 channels a several times and the BBC on TV ONE had more picture on the left and right hand side than was visible on Sky, so I thought it was 16x9, but I also remember it didn't seem to fit the full verticle, and looked a bit funny so it must have been 14x9.  In fact I just read Wikipedia and it says it was 14x9.
