Hi,

I need some advice please. Since December we cannot have our cordless phone plugged in without losing reception of several Sky channels. I called Sky, they said unplug the phone... and that fixed the problem.... but...

We have had the cordless phone within 1 metre of the Mysky STB for 18 months and had never had a problem in that time.

The problem started after an electrician had installed a new power point and a new phone jack in the wall beside the phone and MySky unit. He also put in a new faceplate/wall mount for the Sky cable.

Is it possible that the electrician removed something that was there previously and this has caused the problem?

I unscrewed the wall connection and the cable from the Sky dish connects directly into the wall connection. With the phone unplugged from the power supply, the Sky reception is fine.

Has anyone experienced this before and can point me in the right direction?

I don't want to call the electrician back without knowing a bit more about the problem and I would also like to know more before I call Sky to come around.

The phone is a Panasonic 1.8Ghz model.

Thanks
Spenser

Make sure the sparky has used good quality F connectors and cable for the wall outlet and flylead and not just coax. plugs.

I had that with the same phone too, It was the splitter I have, If I plugged it directly into the sky STB it went away, , Ended up moving it to a different location. I was more worried about the wireless being cut off when I got the phone lol didnt expect it to screw up the sat signal! 1.8ghz must be close to the sat freq from the LNB, I would have gone for the higher feq phone but it came down to $$$

this is a known issues with these phones in combination with the mysky (and some other STB's)

what has happened is that when the electrician installed that nice fancy face plate he created a point where the shielding on the cable is lower,

if he has used lower quality components (especially if he brought the stuff from DSE then its most likely) this will increase this issue,

the best option is to upgrade the phone to a 2.4/5.8ghz model, the frequencies of these are well outside the sky transmission

the other option is to have sky come out and install a single LNB, as these work at a different frequency

the only issue with this is that sometime in the near future sky will be introducing a new LNB that will be able to look at 2 satelites at the same time (current dual LNB model can only look at 1 at a time)

my thought will be that this new model will only be available at the frequency of the current D-LNB and so people with 1.8ghz phones and wishing to have MySky will need to update their phones or move them to a location in the house well away from the STB

Excellent explanation and advice. Thank you very much to everyone who has helped. Much appreciated.

I'll be off to get a new phone. I think we need the dual LNB for the MySky (but I do not know that for sure).

No you don't need a dual LNB for Mysky. But get a new phone anyway.

correct you do not require a dual LNB for mysky, however if skys current plans go in to affect then those with a mysky and HD channels will most likely require the "NEW" as yet to be released LNB,

there will be ways around this, but that will be another topic when we come to it

Problem resolved. A shiny new 5.8Ghz phone is right next to the MySky and everything is working perfectly.

Thankyou to everyone for their advice.

P.S. For sale 1 Panasonic cordless phone 1.8Ghz.....Smile
