I don't have a mysky hdi or mysky+ but can the hdmi cable that runs from the decoder to the hdmi input on the tv be extended? I have been looking and cables all seem to be type A male to type A male but I have no idea whether these are extension leads or new longer cables. I'm not sure if it is possible to remove the hdmi cables that are included with the sky hdi and mysky+ decoders but I was told using a new cable may not work because the connectors may be of lower quality so that is why I am looking for extension cables.

Be nice if someone could upload some pics of the back of the mysky hdi decoder and a mysky+ decoder.

The HDMI cable provided with the MySKY is a standard male-male, about 1.4m I think. You can replace it with a longer cable if you wish as the MySKY just has a female HDMI socket. It is possible to join HDMI cables with female-female gender benders. Someone I know joined multiple SKY-provided HDMI cables this way to find out how many joins and how much length it took to degrade the signal: he got to six cable lengths and five joiners, I think, before he saw any degradation. The SKY cable provided is of basic, but perfectly adequate, quality. People are much more likely to overspend on a Monster-style HDMI cable than underspend on a poorer-quality cable. Take care not to be ripped off by claims you need to spend a lot on HDMI cables.

Just go and buy a new cable, and don't pay more than $20 for one.

I have Hdmi out to an Hdmi splitter which goes to an Hdmi over cat 5 converter which is around 20 metres long and it runs on two tv's with no problems.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

You can easily pick up 5m cables on TradeMe for <$20 (actually, I've found one for $9.30 which even has a couple of ferrite chokes on it which are probably useless really but WTH)

Try to get the type with the braided coating, they're easier to deal with IMHO as they're slightly "grabby" so they stay put.

Unless the devices on both ends were bought in the last couple of months, then a 1.3 cable is fine, don't need 1.4. (Is there even a physical difference? I know there is in earlier versions but not sure with 1.3/1.4)

I have a wall outlet that is connected to a uhf/vhf antenna in another room of my house.

Could a sky technician convert that wall outlet into a skytv outlet and replace the cabling with hd cabling and is there then a 5metre cable that can be run from the new wall outlet to a myskyhd box that is 5 metres away or better yet is there a wall plate that will allow the one cable from the satellte to come straight through a wall plate to 5 metres away to the sky box because I don't want there to be no wall plate.

Hi, just pick the length closest you need of the following link and your done. As you can see many highstreet shops are selling over priced product to the gullable masses.

http://www.cablesdirect.co.nz/catalog/entry?page_number=1&entry=430

And just to clarify you need a standard male to male (A to A) cable, some of the cables in the link are to HDMI mini which is not what you need.
