Following on from the discussion earlier this year about RWC being broadcast in 3D for Sky customers and cinema-goers, apparently plans to do this have been binned.

I can't quite see why people not paying $20 to go see it at a cinema should at all affect whether Sky broadcasts it, but no surprises there.  The real sucky part has to be for foreign networks who now can't get 3D feeds because the host broadcaster can't be bothered.

It wasn't anything to do with the host broadcaster. 3D Live, external to the host broadcaster, decided to withdrawl from shooting those matches in 3D.

So since 3D Live pulled out, there was no 3D content for anyone, including Sky.

There was a press release, but I can't find it online at the moment

I do note however, 1 are in HD AND 5.1 signalling is in full swing :)

So much so the commentary is being drowned out

Or maybe they were trying to charge too much for the 3D feed to overseas purchasers of said feed....and no one wanted to buy it.

That would fit with everything else the IRB has done.

I remember reading it.

If 3D production of the event had been a priority for the organisers it certainly would have happened.

It clearly wasn't a priority.

You'd think the historical value of NZ winning the 2011 World Cup would make it worth a go having it recorded in a more real and 'immediate'  format.....but that would require the vision thing...and we know how that works in NZ.

That is a bit premature seven weeks out from the final, don't you think?

You see no irony in your response with respect to my observation about a lack of vision.....? :-)

WHAT IF.....!!! :-)

I wonder if it occurred to them that maybe the reason there were less people buying tickets to the cinema 3d showings because Sky announced they'd be broadcasting it in 3d? I mean, you can't book things on Sky Arena a month and a half in advance, so they cut their own throats by cancelling it before getting to the point they could even tally up the figures.

Who actually are/were 3DLive? Google doesn't seem to find anything relevant.
