I bought a 42" LCD recently that comes with freeview built into it. I thought it would be easy enough to get Sky and Freeview going, but for some reason Freeview only works properly if I plug it directly into the wall jack. If I plug the tv cable into the Sky decoder (I think it's called "TV") it can only receive a signal for a few stations and they seem to suffer from the signal breaking up.

I'm a bit of a dunce when it comes to AV stuff, so sorry if I'm missing something really obvious.

The analog RF modulator in the Sky decoder could be on the same channel as one of the DVB-T channels used for Freeview HD. you could try changing the output frequency on the Sky box BUT it is best not to use the analog RF output at all, i.e., antenna should be connected directly to TV. Sky decoder output should then connect to TV via SCART to composite, svideo or component. Component is your best option but Sky's image quality can be substandard on any modern TV.

What Sky decoder to you have? If the output from the Sky decoder can be connected to an AV plug(s) on your TV then there should be no conflict. To watch Freeview simply choose 'TV" on your TV, to watch SKY choose 'AV' (along with the AV source plugged into).

Your Sky decoder should be hooked up to your TV using A/V inputs. Either component, svideo, or composite (in terms of quality from highest to lowest). Your TV aerial should be plugged into the RF on the back of the TV.

There is no need at all to have an aerial cable plugged into your SKY decoder.
If you are feeding Sky to another TV (in another room), you can do this using the RF OUT on your Sky box, but there is no need to have it running to your new TV, it is the worst picture quality of all the options for connecting a Sky decoder to a TV.

Your TV's User Manual should show you how to connect the TV to a UHF antenna for Freeview and to a Satelite box for Sky.
Connect the antenna lead between the Tv and the wall socket and use AV leads to connect the Sky box to the TV.

Thanks guys. All sorted now. AV is definitely not a strong point of mine.
