I see Sky are offering SoHo channel free to all subscribers this weekend (Feb 10-13). Maybe they haven't had as many sign-up as they hoped and are now trying to tempt more in....

I've had it from day one and have been very happy with it. I know some complain about the price but I see it this way. For me, $10 per month is a small price to pay for all the quality programming on offer.

Basically it has all the best new shows from all the US "premium", (ie paid for) channels. That is, HBO, Showtime, Starz, Cinemax, as well as shows cherry picked from other networks like AMC and BBC.

To subscribe to those four premium channels in the US costs US$55 per month (from DirecTV). Now OK, each of those is a package of several TV and movies channels and not just a single channel like SoHo, but you would still have to subscribe to all of them to see all of the shows that Sky has packed into Soho :)

Added to that, is that many new shows will be likely played near their US air date. Looks like Luck will be 2 weeks behind and hopefully Game of Thrones season 2 will be the same or sooner when it starts in the US on April 1st :)

Then you have replays of classic older series, (am loving Six Feet Under which I missed originally), and all in glorious HD.... I'm sold :)

I'll go now before I start sounding like a Sky salesman.... Ooops! Too late!

I monitor this forum as i plan to move to NZ in the coming months and although on arrival i will probably subscribe to this channel - here in the UK our version of SOHO (Sky Atlantic) is part of the standard package with no extra subscription required to recieve it.

Quality programming definately - worth a extra subscription on its own...not sure....

If only you didnt have such restricted download allowances either....oh well id better make the most of my 20mb cable modem fibre optic broadband connection while i can!

It's a good package and price - I regard that part of the equation as good value.

My main problem is the way they are packaging and presenting the material - once they have sold it to you they seem to go out of their way to gratuitously annoy you. See this thread:

I will keep it until Game of Thrones 2, as I want to see that quite badly. If I dump it after that it will be because of my irritation level with the way the marketing droids are ruining the viewing experience - not because of price.

Most of my My Sky HD hard drive memory is taken up by Soho programmes.

Really looking forward to Seasons Two of Game of Thrones and The Killing which are due on Soho in April.

Sky just packaged content that was previously free.

I wonder, if they'll do the same with sky sports at some stage...ie, the best sports are in a partitioned package which you pay an extra $10.

I'd happily pay $10 a month for Soho. Unfortunately that's not what it costs. First you have to subscribe to Sky, so you're looking at at least the minimum Sky package, and then $10 on top of that. In addition, my Tivo can't record Sky stuff, so its more money for the My Sky. Not a lot of change there from $100 a month.
Still, I can download Game of Thrones and anything else I want to watch in a timely fashion. And most of the other series turn up on DVD eventually. Would be nice if I could purchase these things for a reasonable price in a reasonable timeframe. But when you can't even purchase a region 4 version on DVD because it hasn't shown on Sky yet, what else can you do? Break the Geoblock & get Netflicks and Hulu?

Purchase a Region A blu-ray from the UK, of course. We are fortunate to be in the same geographic region as them for blu-ray disks so while we can't get them at the same time as the US, the UK is still a damn sight further ahead than we are.

By that reasoning I could claim that donwloading game of thrones and other shows costs a lot of money because you have to pay every month for a broadband connection which, if you want a decent amount of data, is probably going to run into about $100/month

Ummmm....isn't that called the sports package, which (Sport 1,2,3 etc) which already costs extra? I don't have that at the moment.....memo to self, re-add when the rugby starts.

Also, love the fact that the programs run (mostly) ad free and uninterrupted, and compared to the thoroughly unpleasant experience of trying to watch free to air TV (<shrieking> GO HARVEY GO......) that's worth paying for. I just wish they would stop smearing advertising material over the already running program, it is a premium channel after all.
