Lightbox:
What other streaming services are working fine for you?

All of them.  Seriously.  Anything else is fine.

I realise it may be contention at a hand-off point somewhere.  It could all be out of my, Snap and your control.  But its also pointless for me to keep paying for a service I cant use.

richms: These local services need to talk to samsung about the problem of getting their apps onto the players/tv's when they are set to another region.

friends bluray player just setup with US apps when they finally took it online because of the DNS unblocker being set on the router. Now according to samsungs useless help they are stuck like that and there is no way to put tvnz or lightbox onto it without losing netflix and hulu plus which they also use.

Probably not a huge issue for spark customers, but what about slingshot ones with the default global mode?

I hear you, and I like your posts, but if a user geo arranges themselves to a US IP, then is it not unsurprising that they are locked out of NZ?

Not suprising, but if lightbox want to compete they need to get that sorted since I have probably set more people up with their samsungs on unotelly or slingshot and netflix than the local apps which are pretty stink in comparison.

I guess technically, Netflix US and Hulu US are illicit, or illegal, or against their T+C's. So, simplistically, the local user chooses NZ services or US services ?

NB I'm stating this as an individual, not as a Spark or Lightbox supporter.

Just my opinions.

So are we talking domestic or international services? Are you running an alternative DNS etc.? What devices are you using?

Companies like Samsung won't be very keen to confuse their entire US customer base by making an app available that's useless to them just to placate a minority of NZ users who have setup their device out of region. They are not going to let us clutter up the smart hubs in major markets with useless apps.

the only for lightbox to 'sort it' is to show people how to switch their region back to NZ. (and, I suppose Slingshot etc  when they get their customers asking why they can't access TVNZ On Demand - another good reason why ISPs should just steer clear of doing global mode - especially by default - and let the proper companies do it - like unotelly)

Presumably the same applies to the likes of TVNZ On demand, and, when it arrives, Neon.

Once Netflix arrives imn NZ, and therefroe appears on NZ smart devices, will people will be able to have their TVs set to NZ app-stores, but still use US Netflix content?

OK, I have a odd issue with the lightbox android app. The app works fine and fast, video starts fine and plays flawlessly, however consistently after 10 seconds of playback the playback stops. After a minute or so the lightbox app returns to the episode screen, no error message nothing. It's like it just fails to continue to stream the episode. I cannot fast forward past the 11 second mark. The controls continue to work, I can press the pause button etc, just fails to stream.

Any thoughts?

Isn't it possible to login on the Samsung as a Developer account and then download it from a 3rd party server? If Lightbox could look into doing that even if it wasn't officially supported.

Here is an example of a site setup to offer widgets via 3rd party site

And that solved mainstream access how?

You folks are not looking at this from consumers' point of view, you are looking at self-interests that help a minority only.

I believe so.

You would have your SmartHub set to NZ, so you would have Netflix (NZ), Quickflix, Lightbox, TVNZ/TV3 OD. You could then (if you are using a smart DNS service like Unotelly or UnblockUS) set you Netflix region to US, UK etc.

Your TV's DNS would need to be set to the unblockers (or at router level).

I am guessing this is how it would work. The SmartHub on my TV is on NZ, so I don't have the Netflix App yet (but Lightbox works great on it!).

Fringe case here I wondered if someone has tried: I have a 2014 iMac (running Yosemite), and I’m looking at getting an Apple TV.
If I am running Lightbox in-browser on the Mac, will it, via Airplay, screen-mirror happily to the Apple TV? Given that iPad App-to-Apple TV is one of their ‘solutions’, I would imagine this will work.

But I would appreciate some feedback before I invest in an Apple TV only to have some hdcp-type block or indeed appalling performance problems. Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere - i have had a trawl through the various Lightbox threads but not seen this specific case described

(It almost seems like Lightbox are actively working to avoid all the tech I actually have to get it on the TV: Panasonic TV and BluRay; Non-Samsung Android phone and tablet; Xbox... Tis a conspiracy! wink)   Many thanks,  JC

I haven't hooked up Lightbox again as wallet and CC stolen.

But I was playing with Airplay the other night. rMBP to plasma via ATV 3 of a movie was very very average, playing a a video player.. Image was fine but lags, tickle jerky, just not smooth. On my WDTV it was great. So I moved the movie to iTunes folder on rMBP, played on iTunes on rMBP via ATV3, was fine. (Re phrase, I played using the ATV3, which plays whats available in iTunes on the rMBP) When I was testing Lightbox, this was the case. rMBP to ATV3 to TV was not smooth enough for me, iPad to ATV3 was great using the app.

I'd not plan on using the Mac to watch Lightbox vis the ATV3, watch by playing the Lightbox iPad app, through ATV.

CC arrived today so will try tonight

I haven't used it with airplay for a wee while (since the ps4 app came out actually) but I found it to work pretty well on my macbook pro.  ipad was better though.

But if I was using my macbok pro, it would be better to simply plug into TV via HDMI and reduce any risk of wifi interference.

Incidentally, since you are thinking about buying an Apple TV specifically for this reason, you may want to consider just getting a PS3. they can be had 2nd hand for only a little bit more than an Apple TV, has a native lightbox app, and has other benefits such as gaming, blu-ray player, plex etc
