Came across this press release http://www.accedo.tv/newseventsfront/news/accedo-powers-increased-device-support-for-lightbox/

Accedo Powers Increased Device Support for Lightbox

Auckland, 9th June 2015 –
Accedo, the global market leader in TV application solutions, is powering extended device support for Spark New Zealand’s Lightbox TV service.

The Lightbox subscription video-on-demand service launched in August 2014, and is available to all New Zealand homes with broadband internet connections, regardless of ISP. The Lightbox user interface is powered by Accedo’s multiscreen solution, Accedo VIA™, which enables the launch of compelling VOD and Linear TV services more quickly across multiple platforms.

The initial launch saw the service deployed on an Accedo VIA™ powered iPad app. With subsequent releases, Lightbox is now available on a wider range of devices, including iOS and Android tablets and smart phones, PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®4, Samsung Smart TVs, Panasonic Smart TVs, LG Smart TVs, Airplay and Google Chromecast.

Features of the applications include the ability to assign user profiles and parental controls. Viewers can also resume content between devices, as well as displaying recently watched, watch lists, and express content.

“We are pleased that, thanks to Accedo VIA™, less than a year after our initial launch, we have been able to extend our service to an impressive range of devices,” commented Jakob Sorenson, Head of Product at Lightbox. “The initial launch has been extremely well received, and we are proud to be giving viewers across the country the freedom to watch the shows they want when and how they choose.”

“The demand for high quality content available anytime and on any device is becoming an increasingly important factor for consumers,” commented Michael Lantz, CEO, Accedo. “We are pleased to be working with Spark to greatly extend the device reach for the already popular Lightbox TV service, enabling viewers across New Zealand to access the service when and where they choose, on small and big screens alike, and everything in-between!”

“We have worked closely with Lightbox to deliver a best in class user experience for this service,” commented Matt Kossatz, VP Asia Pacific, Accedo. “We look forward to continuing to work together to further develop features and expand device support.”

Chromecast worked perfectly for me last night when I tested it by watching the first 15 minutes of Better Call Saul, using the Lightbox app on my HTC One M7 running Android 5.0.2.  I then got my wife to try it on her iPhone 5 running iOS god.knows.what and that was sweet as well.  I was worried at first, but soon realised that Episode 1 is supposed to start in black and white!

To the Lightbox person(s) who contribute here:
A big "Thanks, and well done".  A few days after I saw the Stuff article saying Chromecast was going to be supported within "weeks" I rushed out and bought one.  While I was getting a little frustrated at how many weeks it turned out to be, having worked on numerous IT projects I appreciate that sometimes a CEO or marketing person says something in the press that the technologists will struggle to live up to, or it takes a bit longer to iron out technical or legal issues that you come across.  But for all that, you have a nice looking service here, and Chromecast support works really well for my circumstances, particularly since we switched to the unlimited Spark broadband plan.  My family will be making a lot of use of this and if you keep adding the content, I'm 100% sure to sign up again when my 13 months free trial ends.

Tested it last nite with my nexus 4 and it worked well.  Can't say I'm impressed with the picture quality compared to Google movies  and Youtube.  Seems to all be in SD  and SD that reminds me of SD on Sky  Mpeg 2..

We go all the way to 9Mbit and 1080p, so it's either the content you're watching or your specific setup.

I'll be brutally honest and admit that we do zero testing on Cyagenmod (and as a consequence our error messages aren't tailored to it).

That's a shame. Is there any debugging I can pass through?

Tested it last night on my Nexus 7 running Android 5.1.1. The tablet screen became 'jumbled' and unreadable during casting and returned to normal when casting was stopped. Once I get back home tonight I will send my screenshot to the Lightbox support email address. Despite this issue the TV image was great and no issues with streaming.

I get the same screen on my HTC M8 running 5.0.1 (2 Degrees). Tested on the wife's iPad and Chromecast last night and worked well. Certainly improved the Wife Acceptance Factor and is going to make it more usable for the kids.

My wifi speed tests up to 14Mbit  on ADSL2 .  I assume  The Vikings is in HD  but it looked more SD to be .  Yep some of the other stuff i was testing on would be SD .  Not sure if there are any settings  in the App or the Chromecast but will look and see. As I said Play movies look good in HD.  Have not tested Netflix yet on the Chromecast.

I tested last night using my S4, NZ purchased Chromecast plugged directly into Sony KDL-40V4000 (no reciever at the moment).

It worked perfectly first time.  Reasonable quality (similar to HD-DVD).  No skips/hangs etc.

I slept the phone, and there was a handy little play pause button on the lock screen.

Fantastic enhancement to Lightbox so far.
